The game, like poker, seems to mean mote when there is something riding on the win. Rut for Ducheene Eagles, wrapping up the Region 13 crown last week, this weeks game against South Summit, which the Eagles lost 13m didnt mean much. Rut Coach Stan Young was not pleased with the teams performance. However, he said they played "all right but was unable to capitalize on some drives. We just couldn't get in the end zone," Young said, They are a pretty good football team. But everytime we got down to score, we just couldnt" The Eagles have been able to score, though, throughout the season. The Eagles will be playing in Duchesne the winner of the Rich and North Sevier game being played Tuesday for the Quarter finale. Eagles coach thinks it Drill be North Sevier. But before moving onto that game. Young would like the basics of football practiced hard But in the game Friday against South Summit, the Eagles were not over confident Then wasnt anything riding I on the game, Young said. don't think we were over confident because we know how good South Summit is. When it came down to it we just couldnt scon. As for as playing a dean game, Young said the Eagles did. They only had one turnover for the game. Although Young said he was pleased with that aspect, he was not on the sporadic play by the Eagles. "I was upset in this last game," Young said. The North Sevier game, which Young predicts will be on the Eagles docket, will be played in Duchesne. The exact day will not be known until Tuesday. North Sevier is a pretty good size team, Young said. They have a couple of real nice running backs and they have a tradition of winning hacking them up. Young said he is confident the Eagles will play better than they did against South Summit But, "...are only taking one team at a . 7-- 2 this week. RECEPTION Andy Yergensen had his legs knocked out from under him but he still came down with the reception. Union's number five took a tremendous hit by a Juab Wasp during the game last Friday. One of several outstanding receptions, this one by Yergensen helped the Cats rip Juab apart to the tune of 31 to 7. The only Juab score came with less than one minute in the game, almost as a crumb offered to the losing team. We ere going to go right back to the hades, he said. The offensive line must learn how to block again. And the defense has time. Union wins big over Juab, now Richfield The team from Nephi had only a day and a half to prepare for the Cats, but the Cougars only had that much time to prepare for the Wasps. This was caused by Union's football team opened their state tournament play with an impressive win, 31-against the Juab Wasps. post-seaso- n 7, hum ways Food and Drug Duchesne WE PROCESS FILM Double Coupon! everyday, tee information at the store. Union continued to have an outstanding offensive line performance as they ran rough shod over the Juab team. Examples of the way the line helped were the holes they opened up for the running of Ray Farnsworth. Farnsworth ran for 113 yards in nine carries, including two touchdowns of 40 yards. He was expected to be the lead blocker, by Juab, and was ignored by the defense. When that was evident to the Cougar Coaches they gave him the ball and he broke open several times. His two biggest runs coming from dives up the middle, which were both set up by the offensive line. Also carrying during the game was Devere Hunt, who had 31 yards in 11 carries, although he was also battling a bad case of the flu. Coach Paul Maggio said he didn't expect Hunt to play but he couldnt lurid him down. He also passed for 5 completions of 11 attempts for 111 yards. One of the passes was a TD to Whitey Crazier. the team was, Defensively well. Defensive as running great End Shawn Buchanan lead the team with 10 tackels. Nose guard Ray Farnsworth had three tackles, and Coach Maggio said that just proved Juab was not getting plays over Ray. Lance and Troy Marx, the corners on defense, each had seven tackles. Maggio said this illustrated the number of three and four yard passes Juab attempted during the game. We were successful at containing the game on the line of scrimmage, Maggio said. With Juab running from the shotgun formation at times, this opened up the dive and drew. The defense kept the line intact until they were certain of the pass or they adjusted to the drew. The five sacks of the Juab QB evidenced Union did penetrate at times as well One of the biggest things that. any Neilaon handicapped the Cats was the penalties.. Maggio said the game was called tight because it was an emotionally charged game." He said it was a gam that was easy to get on edge and the refs' knew it and called it that way. One of the beet things in the game was the receivers catches. Union played a tough pees defense and so did Juab. In almost every pass completion the Cate had, they were well covered. This only testifies to the great receivers they have. Buff Harmston had a fantastic catch and Crazier came down with catch in double coverage. And these were only a couple of the pass completions they had during the game. Facing Richfield This week the Cats must travel to Richfield for the game. A resident of Richfield said the team is a strong physical squad but doesn't have the talent they have had in the past Coach Maggio countered with the opinion that they must have some talent to get into the state - tournament' The game will be in Richfield at I 1:30 p.m. Friday, Halloween. We are predicting that with the Cats wearing the Halloween colors they are playing on their day, therefore they should win. When- they do' win they will face the winner of the - Grenta-villeEme- game. That is iy ex- pected to be Grentaville and that game will be in Tooele on the Cowboys home field a rematch of the only loss the Cats have suffered this year in Region play. The winner of that November 7 game Drill play the state pionship game in Rice Stadium on November 14. - ' - Health Notes Soviets may baa vodka The Ukrainian minister of health, Anatoly Romanenko, says that the Soviet Union plans to outlaw the consumption of vodka and other alcoholic beverages by the year 2000. |
