Applied Digital Data Systems. Inc. of Hauppauge, N.Y.. said the plant, expected to bring a S5 million annual payroll to the valley, will require a zoning variance from Salt Lake County com- missioners. The county planning commission has already approved the variance, allowing a change of the 20 acre site from A-- 2 to M-- l. County commissioners will vote on the issue Sept. 29. Leon Michell, secretary of Digital, says he will be on hand next week to make a presentation to commissioners. Local interviews are already underway to hire a plant manager, he says. "The plant will be staffed totally by local people, Michell explained. The personnel, supervisors and managers for the new plant, will train at another Digital site, he said. Michell said the initial phase of the 225,000 square-foo- t plant is already underway. with local structural engineer Morris Page completing the plant design. Digital will subcontract portions of the construction to local contractors, he added. With variance approval, construction could begin next month, Michell said. The plant should be fully operational within a year. Chamber sets politics course A course in for practical-politic- businesspeople will be offered by the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce next month. According to Peter Cooke, chamber government affairs director, the course will consist of early morning sessions over a five or six week period. Republican state representatives Georgia Peterson and David Irvine will teach the course along with Cooke. Sessions will include instruction on such topics as grass roots campaigning and how to form a political action committee. Cost of the course is S50. s |
