According to figures compiled by the Salt Lake Board of Realtors, the average home sold for $38,766 in 1976, 72.2 percent higher than the price listed 10 years ago. The 1976 average varied from a low of $36,560 during April to a high of $41,373 during December. The average sale price during 1976 was 8.8 percent higher than that Average Sale Price of Home - Salt Lake 1966-197- for 1975 ($35,608). But the 1975 figure wras 12.6 percent higher than the $31,602 1974 average. Potential homebuyers would probably be paying about $300 a month in house payments for a $38,766 home, or about 20 percent of a $1500 a month income. Since the average Salt Lake resident earns far less than $1500 a month, many homebuyers are probably setting aside close to 30 percent of their income for mortgage payments. New Business Filings on the Rise The number of new profit corporations filed in Utah during December jumped 54 percent higher than the Nov ember total, bringing the total for the year to 3,773, nearly 50 percent more than the number filed during 1975. December saw 369 new corporations filed, compared to 239 filed during Novem- Decembers total ber. brought the total for the fourth quarter 1976 to 854, 22 percent higher than the total for fourth quarter 1975. According to the Salt Lake City business license department, 72 new businesses were registered during December, down from the 81 registered during November and the 102 registered during October. But the number of new businesses registering in the county rose to 117, up from the 89 filing during November and the 92 that registered in October. Sec Chart.
