And youll never bit to win the summer crowd with heaped-u- p fixins for ice cream sundaes. Thats the word spread by the young folk who are just about to wind up their annual dairy foods projects. And there are a lot of diem (the young folk) around: more than half-- a million from coast to coast Sometimes they even' make their own ice cream to top off with delectable fresh strawberries, bananas, chocolate, whipped cream and the works. Did you ever make ice cream? Well, why not? Whats so great about homemade ice cream, or a different milk drink? For a it could be the base of a project demonstration. Doing the demonstration could be a first public speaking appearance. It might even lead to a first on television. For many young cooks, using dairy foods in various ways could earn an award. Qualified members have received awards for almost two decades from the Carnation Company through its sponsorship of the national dairy foods program. Among die awards to be chimed this fall by deserving teenagers are expense-pai- d trips to the National Club Congress in Chicago, engraved wrist watches and 9500 scholarships. The scholarships will be presented personally during the Congress by S. A. Add ONE CUP Evaporated Milk and water. Cook over hot water until mixture is hot and very slightly thickened, stirring occasionally. Beat egg Stir a small portion of the sugar-mil- k mixture into the eggs. Re- -, turn to rest of mixture in double boiler and cook for 3 minutes longer, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Add vanilla and remaining 214' cups of Evaporated Milk, Chill thoroughly. Pour into freezer. Cover. Freeze using ice-samixture in proportion recommended for freezer. See directions with your freezer. When ice cream is frozen, pour off brine. Remove dasher and pack with ice and salt. Allow to stand 114 to 2 hours to ripen. 2-- lt GRAPE FIZZ (Yield: Five servings) pint vanilla i e cream, softened ft cup (6 oz. can) frozen concentrated grape juice, thawed 3 cups milk 3 bottles each) ginger ale, chilled Vanilla ice cream In large mixing bowl while beating 1 pint ice cream, blend in grape juice; gradually blend in milk. To serve: Into each glass pour 1 cup grape mixture and add 14 cup ginger ale, mixing well: top with scoop of ice cream. Serve immediately. 1 (7-o- z. Edward M.
