Thats the name of the By JESS WHEILEK question about it, the Preston High football team should have never lost the game last Friday night with Soda Springs! The question that can be asked, is, WHY??? The student body "spirit was the highest I have ever seen in my 11 years following Preston Indian athletics. Like Coach Biggs said, If I could have turned the student body loose, they would have torn Soda apart! The team wasnt up!! WHY?? Many are asking that I dont have the question answer. No 17-1- 4. LET ME GIVE you a few dust to examine. The coaching staff knew how important this game was, and they worked hard preparing the team. Coach Biggs indicated that they worked hani for three days on the very thing they failed to do in the game, namely, BLOCK. Just before the game, Coach Biggs noted that the team didnt show signs of being up for the game. He hoped they would come alive after the game started; they didn't. Coach Carlson indicated that this team is the hardest he has seen, to get up for a game. Are the coaches responsible? I have talked to a lot of coaches over the years about this; they all claim that desire is hard to plant in an athlete. Desire is something that comes from within. Some have it, some dont. It appears at this time, many of our senior footballers do not have that desire. Will it change?? Only the players themselves have the answer. particles WS. Statistics Rushing Passing THERE ARE 16 seniors on the team with Kent Davis and Dean Wilde out with injuries. For them, this is their last season. Most will not play college ball, although some have the potential. What kind of a season do they want to look back on during the winter months and coming years?? The other players look to them for leadership; the other players will follow their example. Many threw their helmets on the ground when the game was over, some even layed on the turf in complete disappointment. They waited too long to come up with the desire to win that game. It should never have gone into overtime. What kind OTHER QUICK thoughts! The defense was good. The only time they let down was when they allowed Soda five yards on the first of the four downs they had to go 10 yards in the overtime. It took Soda three plays to go the other five yards. Some townspeople are saying that because Preston lost they are not going to support the team anymore. I guess what they are saying is, Win and I love you . . . lose and I don't know you! " Doesnt seem right, when, win or lose, they are still our kids! Maybe that's why the kids give up on themselves when they lose. Seems to me, we would want them to know, win or lose, they are still OUR kids!!! Their knowing that appears to me to be more important than anything else. May I go on record, Im with you, guys, win or lose, and what I said today was said to help you have a better look back at this football season during the winter months and coming GOLFER OF THE MONTH for September is Wayne Doney who will receive a trophy. Jeff had only five defensive points in the first half; he came back with 18 defensive points in the second half. That's what DESIRE does to a player. In the Marsh Valley and Snake River games, Sid Atkinson was outstanding both defensively and offensively. Gary Sparrow, Jeff Balls, Keith Rawlings, Carter Talbot and Frank Casperson, the interior linemen, have all had their moments, but Friday night they failed to be a team and get the job done offensively. Will it be different Friday only they can answer that question! 0 6 WS 74 78 152 20-1- game!! Jeff Leonard, a senior, proved 8 6 6 0 Grace THE GOLF Score by quarters: 6 20-1- ...
