Seven 4 tier's received $5.00 bank awards presented by Itex Wilkerson, representing First Security flank of Duchesne. These were given fur outstanding 4 II record hooks. Twenty four trophies were given to 4 Hers in the field of home economics, 4 Hers livestock and horses. Thirty-twreceived secial pins, and fifty 4 Hers received 4 year pins. $1,164.15 in premium money was awarded to 4 II members. and FFA members who exhibted in the Duchesne County Fair. Approximately 175 4 II members, parents and leaders were in attendance. Miss Marie Hale, Extension Home Economist, conducted the program this yesr. Allen Andrew, I Youth Specialist, showed alidrs of various 4 II activities that took place during the year. The event was sponsored by Utah State University Extension and Standard Oil Company of California. Accompanying the three youths were USU Extension Agents Marie Hale and Elaine Massey. The youths gave many examples of beautification projects they were doing in their home communities. These ranged from mailing litter back to persons who carelessly tossed it away to putting in planter boxes on Main Street. "But community pride is more than projects," commented one just clean-uparticipant. We need a variety of things to be proud of, she staled. Although only seven representatives had been assigned to discuss the progress reports they had made in their counties, others quickly volunteered the information on what they had been doing in their communities. Projects ranged from painting the dairy barn at the State Fair Grounds to a community awimming program. Among the activities during the conference were the planting of a tree at the Peace Gardens, a tour of a local refinery and a tour of various areas in Salt Lake City to show what had been done and also what needed to be done. Bruhn, state directr of community affairs, met with the participants and told them You can't have much pride without progress. And making progress is like eating an elephant. At this time worn-ou- t American flags will be disposed of. The flag burning should be attended by all Durhesne Girl Scouts, with an open invitation to their parents and friends to join the girls.
