Show Local Auxiliary NEWS members attend confab FROM: The American Legion Auxiliary', Department of Utah, leadership development seminar and school of instruction sponsored the Veteran's Day weekend at the Ramada Inn, Salt Lake City, and was acclaimed as a atep forward in carrying out this years theme, "Let's Make America a Family Affair - for community, state and nation. Three department officers from District nine (Duchesne and Uintah Counties) participated in the Saturday and Sunday workshops and other leadership activities. They are Mrs. Phyllis W. Day, Duchesne, department historian; Mrs. Josephine Yergensen, Roosevelt, department girls' state chairman; Mrs. Von Houtz, Roosevelt, department Americanism chairman; Mrs. Lois La Rose, Alta-mon- t, district nine president; Mrs. Roberta Jones, Roosevelt, district nine girls' state chairman. The workshops began Saturday morning at the Ramada Inn, 1000 South State in Salt Lake City. Mrs. Vera Peterson, Logan, Department president conducted the sessions. Ninety leaders of the organization that fosters sid to war veterans, and promotion of America, attended the sessions. These volunteer workers from the nine districts snd the 85 state appointive committee members presented new material for the year's Americanism and service programs and plans for all phases of activity of The American Legion Auxiliary, department of Utah. Mrs. Peterson announced this seminar and school of instruction is the only one to be held this year in Utah. Formerly, four of these workshops were held this time of the year in various areas of the state. During the seminar, the department endorses Mrs. Clark (Edith) Bonner, Lyman, Utah, as a candidate for National Chaplain of the National American Legion Auxiliary. Formerly of Salt Lake, Mrs. Bonner is serving the National organization as emergency fund committee chairman. Mrs. Keith (Barbara) Gwilliam, Roy, is serving as national chairman of the western divisoin leadership development committee; and Mrs. Walter (Betty) Calder, Salt Lake City, was recognized as National Area "E" Communications chairman. Union high PTSA Corner Thursday, October 25 is "Teacher Appreciation Day" and the PTSA would like to express their appreciation to each teacher for the work they do each day for the students at Union high. Also to thank Jr. high and elementary teachers. They will take time out on this day to tell a teacher how much he or she is appreciated. On Friday, October 26, at 7 a.m., there will be a PTSA Board meeting. They will be discussing surveys taken at Union, and other schools, also projects completed or near completion and those to be started. They ask that parents don't forget to join the PTSA. Dues can be paid at the ROOSEVELT . . Mrs. Veda Labrum Mr. and Mrs. Harold Dillman, Layton, and Mrs. Sharon Kerns, Salt Lake, attended the wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Duke Wardle, Friday, Oct 19. Mr. Dillman performed the ceremony. The Dillman's are the grandparents of the groom. Mr. and Mrs. Jay Hansen went to Salt Lake Monday where Mrs. Hansen received medical attention. Mrs. Harvey Creech, Beaumont, Calif., visited with Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Walker last week. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Killian and children, David and Carol spent the weekend with Mrs. Lora Killian. They also went deer hunting. Miss Denise Christensen, American Fork and Miss Donna Morris Copperton, Calif., student teachers who have been living with Mrs. Tina Wilkins for the past six weeks have returned to BYU. Miss Dannielle Loveall, Grass Valley, arrived in Roosevelt Monday to do student teaching. She will also stay with Mrs. Wil- 722-201- 5 Mulford. e Mrs. Clists Angus spent the weekend in Fruitland with Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Angus. They were also joined by Mr. and Mrs. Kent Angus. Weekend visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Orlando Rachele were their sons, Orlando and Aldon, students at the University of Utah. Mr. and Mrs. Orson Stevens went to Salt Lake over the weekend to meet their son Chris who returned home from a mission in Japan. He was stationed In the East Japan mission with headquarters at Sappora. Before returning home he toured Japan and Hawaii e Mr. and Mrs. Lawrell Jensen spent the weekend in Grantsville and Skull Valley visiting with relatives. Mrs. Fritz Hansen and Chalyn, Durango, Cola, spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Murray. They also visited in Sslt Lake before returning home. Mrs. Lyall Pitt recently spent a week in Salt Lake visiting with relatives. e Guests at the James Zobell home over the weekend were Mr. and Mrs. Gary Zobell and baby and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Perry and three daughters, all from Salt Lake. e Mr. and Mrs. Robert Guymon, Salt lake, were overnight guests at the home of Mrs. Lyall Pitt last week. Mrs. Guymon and Mrs. Pitt are sisters. Jerry and Steven Yack spent the weekend home from school and went deer hunting. They are attending the U of U. The new fella weighed in at 6 lbs and 7 oz and has a little brother and sister. e Mrs. Margaret Loranger went to Salt Lake Saturday of last week with her son Duane for him to have medical advice. Duane had to go into the hospital Wednesday for an operation on his knee. Margaret kept their new baby Michelle Tuesday, Margaret and Gail Loranger and the baby motored to Delta to spend sometime with her mother, Mrs. Jenny ShawL They helped settle her in a nursing home for the winter. Shiela Anderton from Provo visited with her parents, the Carl Anderton's over the weekend. Lyle Fenn and Grandson, Mark from Torrance, Calif., spent vacation time here recently visiting with his sister, Clara Bowden and brother Devon and other relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Loranger was in Salt Lake last week for Evelyn to receive a medical checkup. Lars and Dahl Powell and son and Mr. Lyn Wright all from Salt Lake came for the first weekend of the deer hunt with their lather, James Powell and family.
