It is a surprising fact that many do not even know where the Park is located. This is certainly a reflection on our patriotism. Every man, woman and child in the state should be familiar with every inch of Memory Park. Every tourist stopping in Salt Lake should see it for we cannot be reminded too frequently of the sacrifice made by those who died for us in that Great Cause. A more beautiful spot could not have been selected for this Park. The mountains rise like guardians and protectors above it, the rippling, sparkling creek ever sings its merry song as it flows through it. Vines, creepers, trees, flowers and flowering shrubs enhance its beauty. The west wall of the canyon has been terraced with retaining walls built of rocks gathered from the mountainside. Lawns and trees have been planted, on these terraces. Below it is beautiful Memory House with its quaint dormer and French windows with green shutters. Cobble rocks form its base, which conforms with the scheme of decoration throughout the park. The east wall of the canyon is a mass of Beflowering shrubs, trees and vines. low it lies Memory Park. A bridge built of cement and cobble rocks spans the creek. The beo of Cne creek below this bridge will soon be converted into a lake. Everything has been done to make Memory Park as North of the pergola below the east wall stands a 177 millimeter German field gun which was placed and dedicated November 1, 1926. Further to the north you will find the beautiful granite monument Dedicated by the living to the dead of the 145th Field Artillery. A bronze eagle with spreading 'wings stands at the top. On the face of the central shaft is the figure of a Utah mother giving her son to the service of her country. Directly in line wdth the shaft and toward the front of the platform is a Grow sundial bearing the words: old along with me. The best is yet to be. and We live in deedsfnot years. The park comprises twenty acres and everything is being done to beautify every inch of the grounds. The citizens of Utah feel grateful indeed to those who have labored to make Memory Park possible. Mrs. E. 0. Howard, who is the life chairman, has worked unceasingly to perfect these memorial grounds. She has not only put forth every effort to raise funds to make the Park what it is today but has contributed freely towards its upkeep and improvement. Memory House, which was given to the Service Star Legion, was opened for public lectures, recitals, luncheons, parties and dancing in the fall of 1926. The revenue from this source is used for the maintenance and upkeep of the park.
