Show twin sons from Grand Junction over the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Don Mayhew took a trip to the Los Angeles area last week to attend a temple wedding for their cousin Wayne Jolley and his bride Lani Page. They stayed with their eousin Lawnie Mayhew in Monrovia, Calif., and visited with Guy and Carol Mayhew, Alta Mayhew in San Bernardino, and Mr. and Mrs. John Jolley, as well as touring Universal Studios. The folks up at Nine-Mil- e Canyon held for Nine-their semi-annuMile neighbors and friends at the N. L Wimmer ranch Saturday. About 50 people attended the event and the menu e included a mutton and pot lurk Bar-B-Qu- e Bar-B-Qu- dishes. The Grant family held a reunion at the Duchesne City Park Friday. The event was organized by Mrs. Monica Grant and Mrs. Sue Anne Spendlove and was enjoyed by about 45 people. The picnic included chicken and pot luck dishes and everyone enjoyed swimming and a softball game. Steven M. Bailey, previously employed by Roosevelt, as summer recreation direction will now continue through the winter months as a full time city recreation director. Full time, City recreation head approved Mrs.-Home- The Roosevelt City Council has approved the employment of a full time recreation director to coninue through winter months in Roosevelt. Whereas in the past the position has been filled only during the summer it will now be year round. The duties of the Director will be very similar to what he traditionally handled during the summer, that is to handle all recreation and sports activities for the Roosevelt area. Some of the duties include the coordination of activities and schedules for the various City athletic groups including softball, little league baseball, soccer, basketball and volleyball. He will also direct tournaments in these and other sporting activities such as tennis an golf and recreational activities such as chess and checkers. Facilities and equipment will also come under his direction. Steven . M. Bailey, a graduate of Brigham Young University with a Masters degree in Recreation Education, is currently the Recreation Director, as he was last summer, and will merely step into the fulltime job. Some of the things Steve is currently doing include softball and sixty seperate ladder tournaments in everything from tennis to checkers. He is also starting a soccer league for teenage boys and working on a men's flag football league and a city basketball league. Duchesne in Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Pettengill announce the birth of a new son named Ryan Duane Pettengill at 9:25 a.m. on July 9th, weighing 5 pounds 10 ounces. The boy is the new brother of Melissia, age 7 and Christian, age 18 months. Connie and Kim Mullins were in St George over the weekend visiting with friends and family, including Mr. and Mrs. Tom Semmens, and ended their trip by driving home through Zions Park. The Troy Baileys spent the weekend up on the Strawberry River camping and r fishing and were visited by Mr. and Mrs. Mr. of and Fitzwater Orem, Lonnie Fitzwater of Salt Lake City, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Fitzwater of Salt Lake City and Mr. and Mrs. Doug Moore. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Davis were visited by their son and his family, Mr. and Mrs. Rex Davis of Las Vegas, Nevada, and are expecting another son and his family to visit this week, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Davis of Tucson, Ariz. Marvel and Verda Moore entertained Mr. and Mrs. Guy Mayhew and their family of Salt Lake City for the weekend. Mrs. Gladys Odekirk spent last week Salt Lake City visiting with her six children and grandchildren. Mrs. Ernita Robbins, daughter of Mrs. Gladys Odekirk is now back in Duchesne. The Robbins' also have a home in Wyoming. Visiting the Eldridge Buckalews over the last few weeks were their daughter, Mrs. Elaine Carter and granddaughter of Granger, Michelle Carter, Mrs. Elva McAfee and daughter Kathy, Mr. and Mrs. Kirk Schroder from Riverton, as well as their and friend who visited them up at the airport during a period of bad weather which interrupted their flight from Salt Lake City to Craig. Jim and Ferdell Day were visited by her sister, Mrs. Nadine Otero and her Weekend events raise funds for Roy Park walk Nancy Mortensen, Eddie Brown, Lucky & Lori Dorrity, John Miller, Sherry Parker, Mike & Denice Floyd, Bob & Florence Smith, Cal Carman, and Carole Wallace. Windows, Mirrors All This year the Utah Quarter Horse show will be held in Duchesne to kirk off county fair week. This is quite an honor for us," said Lucky Dorrity, coordinator. This will be the first time Duchesne has hosted the state youth show, which will begin Friday, August 12 at 9 a.m. Youth competitors can be 18 years of age or under, and will compete in western pleasure. English, pleasure, trail, reining, barrel racing and pole bending. The adult show will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, and classes will be: western pleasure, English pleasure, trail, calf roping, reining, barrel racing and pole bending. Duchesne's annual show is being recognized as one of the finest and largest in the intermountain area, with some of the best premiums. It is the only Utah Fuarter horse show to be written up in the Intermountain Quarter Horse Association magazine. Joyce and Dennis Snider of Salt Lake are going to Las Vegas for a week, combining business and pleasure. While they are gone, their 3 children will stay with their grandparents, Jess and Viola Jensen of Randlett. Wayne and Dona Pickup, also Joan Pickup, spent a few days in Salt Lake last week visiting with friends and relatives. Edna Littleton had a birthday party on the 5th of July. All 5 of her children were home for it so they had the party at the scout house in Vernal. They served dinner to 65 people. At the Vernal Rodeo Dance, 2 couples from our little community of Randlett, placed in the dance contest. They were, Ellen and Rlaine Argyle, 3rd place, and Jim and Geraldine Frost, 4th place. Glenda Brown and her 2 children went on vacation to Denver and Montrose, CoIol, to visit friends and relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Wardle were in new turf for the football field at Union high school arrived and was laid this week at the school. NEW TURF The the basin last week. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Dudley have their son Larry, his wife Fay and Harold Ray visiting them this week. Larry and Fay have been to Flaming Gorge to a Chivers Reunion. Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Chandler and boys went to Salt Lake during the week. He bought a few calves at the auction in North Salt Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Brough have a new baby girl born Monday, at about 5 p.m. in the Roosevelt Hospital. They live in Altamont. Sam grew up in Randlett. He is the son of Grant Brough. The Ellsworth family held a reunion at Merkley Park in Dry Fork this week. Bill and Ivy Chandler left on Friday, he 15th of July for North Bend, Oregon to a Potter reunion. They were accompanied by their daughter, Beatrice and Melvin Davis and their son, Terry Davis, Worland, Wyo. They plan on being gone two weeks. One of the highlights of Sgt. City police officer - Roger Lee Dart and his little brother Kevin Utley are the match of the month for June. . Brothers of the month Big brother match for the month of June comes from the Roosevelt area. Roger Lee Dart and his little brother Kevin Utley. Roger is a graduate of Union high school and after studying business in college decided to go into business for himself. He is both the owner and proprietor of the Len El Shoe Store. Roger has a diversity of interests. He plays any type of sports- and enjoys working with kids of various ages. Roger's wife feels it is good and supports him in his work. Roger feels it is good for both himself and the kids, probably more so for the kids, but it helps adults as they strive to be good examples. Roger gets the same opportunities to help his own son a lot. He would recommend it to others who have time to spend and are willing to sacrifice. Roger says that Kevin really enjoys it. He needs someone to give him the lather image. Kevin is or will be eight years old this month. He attends East Elementary school and has one brother, Steven and one sister Angela. Steven was also matched to a Big Brother, but due to circumstances the match had to be ended. Kevin and Steven are both full of energy and Mrs. Utley agrees that they can be quite a handful sometimes. Kevin says he really looks forward each week to meeting with Roger. They have set aside Wednesday night as their time together. They have done everyto thing from playing basketball g in Rogers truck, to babysitting Rogers little son. Mrs. Utley indicated that prior to Kevin's getting a Big Brother, he was always active and often mischievous. But since receiving a Big Brother Kevin has calmed down considerably. Oh, he is still active but now he is more controlled and really looks forward to seeing his Big Brother each week. D. s state quarter RANDLETT A total of- $1,000 was cleared last weekend in Duchesne to be donated to the Roy Elia son Park Fund. The money will be used to pour a sidewalk from the picnic pavillion to the rodeo arena. The money was obtained through two rodeos, four dances, and a tennis tournament that were held last Friday and Saturday. Rex Wilkins, a roper from Vernal, won award for the two the rodeos. He received a pair of Nocona boots for his achievement. The boots were donated by Karren's Korner. Several other cowboys won buckles and money for their part in the rodeo. Sgt. Steve Davis has been employed as an officer of the Roosevelt City Police Department since February 1975. He is married to the former. Joan Park of tfoods Cross, Utah, and has a one year old son, Heath. During his 2 'A years with Roosevelt City Sgt Davis has served as patrolman, juvenile officer, and assistant police chief Prior to employment with Roosevelt City, Sgt. Davis worked for the Salt Lake County Sheriff and studied police science imd sociology at Weber State College, receiving his bachelor of science degree in June 1974. Sgt Davis graduated with honors and was awarded as the outstanding police science graduate of 1974. During his tenure as a police officer and through hs educational experience Sgt Davis has sought to specialize and become familiar with the problems of youth. He has attended schools and seminars on juvenile delinquency, child abuse, and counciling. He holds certificates from Utah Peace Officer Standards and Training in basic training, law enforcement administration, and juvenile justice. Having been born in Price and reared Bountiful, Sgt. Davis is a native Utahn. He graduated from Viewmont high, Bountiful in 1968 and served as a missionary in the LDS Churchs South West Indian mission. in Judges set for Saturday parade A panel of senior citizens will judge the parade in Altamont for the Days of 47" on Saturday, July 23. Judging will begin at 9 a.m., and winners will be announced after the parade. Prizes will be given for floats, novelties, kids bikes, kids horses and kids novelties. Motor bike prizes will be based on decorations and ability to handle the bike in a responsible, considerate manner.
