Speakers for the graduation was Robert L. Park, a teacher and class advisor for the Seniors for six years. Mr. and Mrs. Park also sang their theme song "The Twelfth of Never". The students all took part on the program. Earl H. Van Tassell, a school board member, presented the diplomas, with Keith Bergquist graduating the class. The Tabiona band played the processional and recessional. Many out of town friends, family came to the exercises. Visitors at Mr. and Mrs. Bill Williams also attending the graduation were Mrs. Grace Slater of Ogden, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Williams and family. Salt Lake; Mrs. Lori Mallo and baby, Idaho and Mrs. Sherry Byce and children. Mr. and Mrs. Voy Stewart and family of Midvale visited at Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Giles. Held at the Duchesne elementary school the ceremony included presentation of an appreciation certificate to Mr. Leo Foy, principal of the Duchesne elementary school and presentation of a certificate of leadership to Junior leader, Mrs. Hazel Mudgett for four years of leadership. She was also presented with a girl scout medallion necklace. During the afternoon the girls participated in a flag ceremony, sang Girl Scout songs, held the presentations, which included giving a friendship pin to Mrs. Dottie Prince who is also a leader. Mrs. Donna Bangs, Neighborhood Chairman, reports there is still a need for volunteer leaders for the coming years scouting program. Basin resident is selected for officer training Sp5 Gilbert A. Burkman of Roosevelt, has been selected to attend the Utah Military Academy as an officer candidate. Burkman is a member of Co A 1457th Engr of the Utah National Guard and has been selected to attend officer candidate school because he has shown leadership qualities. In order to become an officer, he will summer camps at spend two, Camp Williams and spend a year of drills at the Utah Military Academy there. During the first year of annual training, the candidate is required to be in good physical condition, prepare his uniform and equipment and be willing to continue with intensive academic leadership and physical training. Subjects Include He will be taught such subjects as drill and command, map reading, weapons, unit administration, law, logistics, medicine, army maintenance, communications, small unit tactics, civil disturbance training and divisional units. He will enter the mission home J une 8 and go to the Australian mission. Jannette Turnbow will also see her eye doctor in Salt Lake as she recently had surgery. They will visit with their daughter Joy and family. Mr. and Mrs. Arvel Rhoades and Mr. and Mrs. Leo Turnbow were shopping in Salt Lake last Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Ned Dunford took the Senior class on a tour last Saturday visiting all the church offices and places of interest in Salt Lake. The Seniors also toured the city the day before on their senior sneak with Carlene Williams and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Park their class advisor. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Van Tassell and son Jessup attended the Provo Temple Tuesday. Jessup entered the mission home May 25. He goes to New Zealand. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Smith also entered the mission home. They go to Denver, Colo. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Lee received word that Mr. and Mrs. Charles Skewes, Logan had a baby girl Monday May 20, weighing 7 lb 2 oz. Other grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. John Skewes of Bountiful and two great grandmothers, Mrs. Buelah of Bountiful and Mrs. John B. Skewes of Moab. Your reporter Mrs. Connie Lee had the misfortune of falling and breaking her arm last Sunday. So she is unable to write the news this week. We wish her a speedy recovery. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Clark and Mrs. Angie Lewis attended the Provo Temple last Wednesday. Buddy Maxwell, Salt Lake, was visiting at Tabiona this week. He also decorated the graves at the cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Lou Penrod spent Sunday and Monday visiting Mr. and Mrs. Frank Defa. They left for Kansas to spend Memorial Day with his brother. They will also be joined by Lou's twin brother from Chicago whom he hasn't seen for twenty eight years. The Tabiona Relief Society will be holding their mini classes once a month on the second Tuesday of every month. There will be one held on ceramics in June.
