A University of Colorado van used by a Mexican-America- n student organization was photographed at more than one New York FALN bomb site in October 1974 and was reportedly driven in New York about the time of those bombings by Ricardo Romero, a Denver Chicano activist who ha$l served on the church's Hispanic Commission. The van smelled of explosives. . . A second batch of dynamite stolen from the Deer Creek construction site, recovered by Denver police, was found hidden in a crypt in an old cemetery where Crusade for Justice (a Denver Chicano political and civil rights organization that has received church commission funds and which formerly employed Ricardo Romero) members were working. Nelson W. Canals (church commission staff member under Miss Cucto in 1974 and 1975) visited the four Puerto Ricans convicted of the shooting in Congress in 1954. Travel records show that Canals made several trips between New York and San Juan shortly before and after the Fraunces Tavern bombing. records of other church Hispanic commission members or employees correspond with the dates and sites of FALN bombings. The discovery of the Chicago bomb factory" happened after a narcotics addict, living in the. same, building, saw Torres and a as Oscar Lopez, who companion-identi- fied preceded Torres on the church's Hispanic commission--carryi- ng packages into the apartment. The addict waited until the apartment wras untended. broke in and found 21 sticks of dynamite, walkie talkies, propane tanks, blasting caps, detonator cord, watches already wired as timing devices and other incendiary materials. The addict started to sell the dynamite and the Chicago police, who learned of the venture made an undercover buy and arrested the addict who led them to the Torres apartment. The most interesting piece of material was an FALN communique written on paper with the group's symbol a star with the letters imposed over it. Investigators are proceeding on the theory that Torres and his frieids used the church commission to cover their activities. -- . avel gift-wrapp- ed 1 five-point- ed $249.95 MIXER $139.95 Extra copies of this issue 504. 5 for $1. 50 for $5. 100 for $10. .
