Show Locals place at ByTOMHARALDSEN state meet PREP CROSS COUNTRY Sports Writer SALT LAKE CITY The Bountiful High boys cross country team provided the main highlight for local teams during the state championship Wednesday afternoon at Sugarhouse Park. The Braves placed fifth in the 5A competition, Bountifuls best finish ever except for a fourth place finish in 3A a few seasons ago and a fourth in 4A finish the place effort much was '70s.Wednesdays more impressive, as the Braves topped perennial powers such as Bingham (6th place). Davis (7th) and Skyline (8th). Bountiful finished with 167 points. Mountain View won the event with 46, followed by Roy with 72 and Weber with 141, Davis finished with 174 points. The top local finisher was Erick Amell of Davis in 18th in a time of 15:46.7. Right behind was Matt Law rence of Bountiful in 19th in a time of 15:47.7. Other local finishers included Nate Jones of Bountiful in 24th at 15:51.8, Aaron Anderson of Davis in 38th at 16:11.8, Ryan Dryer of Bountiful in 39th at 16:13.2, Robbie Jenen of Davis in 41st at 16:13.9. Chris Spangenberg of Davis in 42nd at 16:14.4, Shawn Walpole of Bountiful in 43rd at 16:15.5, John Rosser of Davis in 47th at 16:18.9, Aaron Edwards of Davis in 52nd at 16:25.8, Sherm Hadley of Bountiful in 53rd at 6:26. ; Jon Jackson of Bountiful, 72nd at 16:4.1; Tom Wilding, Bountiful, 78th at 16:51.3; and Carson Dickson, Davis, 83rd at 17:02.9. In 4A boys, Woods Cross finished th with 250 points. Timpview captured the team title with 46 points. Mountain View easily won the 5A girls title as well. Viewmont placed 12th with 311 points and Davis 13th with 313. The local finishers were led by Lindsay Wagner of Davis in 34th, 19:42.5; Jill Johansen, Viewmont, 40th, 20:01.4; Merrilee Brown, Viewmont, 47th, 20:14.6; Nanette Smith, Viewmont. 61st, 20:49.9, and Kim Larsen, Davis, 68th, 21:07.1. Other locals were Laurissa Wallin, Davis. Woods Cross placed 1th as a team in 4A girls, which Springville captured with 88 points. The Lady Wildcats totaled 295 points. In ceremonies at the Fort Douglas Country Club, professionals Johnny Miller and Mike Reid served as featured speakers as top junior golfers throughout the state were recognized at an awards dinner. Summerhays, who helped lead Davis to the 5A state championship, earned top honors in the 15-1- 7 age division. Summerhays, who is was the Utah State Junior Open champion. He captured Golfer of the Year honors despite playing in a higher age division. Bountiful 295-942- 295. 5 PREP SWIMMING Woods Cross whips Springville tankers in preseason meet BOUNTIFUL The Woods Cross swim teams soundly defeated Springville in the opening meet season last Friday of the 1993-9- 4 at the Bountiful Recreation Center. The preseason dual meet ended with the Lady Cats winning 103-6- 6 and the Wildcats prevailing 114-5- 4. The girls placed first in every event, breaking six school records in the process. They were led by two freshmen, Jamie Anderson, who broke both the 200 yard individual medley record with a time of 2: 19.56 and the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of : 3.94, and Erin Blundell, who set a new record in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:03.53.
