I have friends ask, that happens in Roy? He was going to be late coming home from work and needed me to pick up a certain lawnmower part before the stores closed that night. And of course, there wasnt a pencil within 10 feet of the telephone. Or anywhere else in the house for that matter. What dya do, go to the store and buy one? Dave asked when I returned with a toothpick and the idea of using it to scratch the part number on the rind of a wa- 'i tcrmelon that was in the fridge. That might have been quicker, I said. I dont know where the pencils go at our house. The only time I can ever find one is when Im desperately looking for something else like a comb when Ive just got out of the shower and an old friend I havent seen for 15 years is leaning on the doorbell, or a pair of tweezers when Ive got a sliver the size of a fence picket embedded in my foot, or the spare set of car keys when Ive . just locked the others, along with the baby, in the car with the motor running.
