Cyclists will compete in a race on Friday and a road race on Saturday. A $10,000 cash purse will be awarded to cyclists during the two days of racing. The Coors Golden Spike Classic is turning into a world-clas- s racing event in Utah, said Lynn Butterfield, executive director of Golden Spike Empire. The bicycle racing will begin Friday with the KSL Radio in downtown Ogden. The event will be held Saturday, September 12 at 10 a.m. It will begin at Park City Public Park and end at end at Wasatch Mountain State Park in Midway. Biathlon events will include a 30 kilometer mountain bike ride and a 15 kilometer run. Participants will follow a beautiful mountain trail from Park City, down Pine Creek Canyon to Wasatch Mountain State Park. A party and awards ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. at the park. Registration fee is $12 $15 day of race and $10 for Park City Nordic Club members. Proceeds from the biathlon will benefit the Park City Nordic Club and Junior Ski Team. For the last five years, the bag limit was 15, but tThe U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service believes there has been a decline in dove populations in the western United States and called for tighter hunting regulations. Citations are being written to hunters in possession of more than 10 doves. In Utah, the Division of Wildlife Resources is aware of the significant decline in the dove index. The causes for the apparent decline consist of a loss of nesting habitat and agricultural changes that result in reduction of food sources. Dove populations are generally thought to be positively associated the amount of residual wheat, barley, oats and corn from harvests.
