Show 2B Lakeside Review, Wednesday, September 9, 1987 Correction noted on Roy Days princess Singing doorbell status symbol but Sara thinks her folks will go for something SHARON NAUTA STEELE Lakeside Review columnist There are status symbols. And then there are status symbols. You should hear Sara Bellum's new computerized doorbell, my teenage daughter exclaimed the day she returned from a slumber party at her best friends house. Its really something. When I rang it last night it played Michael Jacksons latest hit all the way through. Sara waited until the very last beat to answer the door, and I didnt even mind Standing on the porch so long. Just think! Instant Michael '. Wont it be a scream when a traveling salesman leans against the doorbell, and the first thing he hear is We Aint Got a Barrel of Money! There are seasonal songs too. At Thanksgiving time the Bellums proch will resound with or Shine - t-R- ain Jackson every time someone pushes that shiny little button next to the Bellums front door. But thats not all. Saras parents strains of Over-the-Riv- and er Through the Woods. Then when Christmas rolls around visitors will be welcomed in to either Jingle Bells or Rudolf the Reindeer. The Bellums are so lucky, my can program their doorbell to play other things as well. Personally, Id like to hear Shakedown, Red-Nos- daugher continued. That musical doorbell is such an improvement over ordinary old Ding Dongs like ours. I replied. I dont know, Sounds like another source, of unnecessary racket to me. Anyway, if its music you want, youre welcome to turn on the radio any time you like. Yeah, my daughter sighed getting down to the nitty gritty of why anyone would want an apparatus like the Bellums had. But when youve got a musical doorbell, people think youre really Dixie Dean and Brent Dix LAYTON Mrs. Margie M. Dean of Layton and Dr. N.K.
