Show 4A Lakeside Review, Wednesday, August 27, 1986 Smith's grows Property rezoned for addition LYNDIA GRAHAM Review correspondent - LAYTON The Smiths Food King warehouse and manufacturing complex is still growing and another piece of property south of the main site on Angel Street has been zoned to allow for future expansion. Peter Bark, an attorney for Smiths told the Layton City Council the property was not slated for any certain development at this time but future needs neces-sate- d the rezone action. He said at one time a frozen dough plant was suggested for the site but would be placed on another piece of ground in the area. Van Boss, a resident near the rezoned property expressed conabout noise levels when development took place. He said there was a constant humming noise from the existing buildings now and asked if buffers would cern be required at development time. He was assured buffers would be required. Ned Iverson, a homeowner on Gentile Street, was most concerned about the traffic in the area. Heavy trucks traveling into the industrial area surrounding the Smiths site must use Gentile or Gordon street as access. City Planner Scott Carter said a new road is on city planning lists and would connect the main highway and the industrial area near the exchanges. Carter said that road could be completed by developers as they improve their ground and build in the area or the city could put the street in, but it was a second priority project. He said the Antelope Drive connection to Highway 89 was of prime importance to the city at this time. The property was approved for a rezone to M-- 2 in a unanimous vote. Roy to get help with city's traffic ROY The City Council received encouraging news at its Tuesday night meeting when a letter from Wasatch Front Regional Council (WFRC) said it is prepared to dedicate a substantial amount of time to addressing the problems of increased traffic problem. Roy already has a freeway access at 1900 West and 5600 South, but the communitys increased growth has filled the access to overflowing. In a letter dated Aug. 12, WFGC Director Wilbur Jeffries said the solution to this issue has to be a cooperative effort involving Roy City and the Utah in Roy. The council has been faced with this problem since 1977. But, according to City Manager Richard Kirkwood, the city has not met the requirements needed to obtain federal funding. Last month the council requested help from the WFRC for help in finding a way to relieve the traffic Department of Transportation (UDOT) as well as its staff. Jeffries said their staff can as- sist in organizing the analysis and personnel necessary to prepare an initial study of the additional interchanges or other solutions.
