The program includes classes to instruct residents of a community how to watch out for their neighbors, how to identify suspicious behavior, and how to report a crime to law enforcement agencies. The Watch coordinators will meet four times a year with the Davis County Sheriffs Department to keep themselves informed of new information, as well as learn of ways to keep the public motivated, Smith said. The Neighborhood Watch program, sponsored by the Davis County Sheriffs Department, was .adopted last week by West Point City as an organized community project. This is the first Neighborhood Watch program adopted by an entire city in Davis County, said Gayle Smith, public relations director for the Davis County Sheriffs Department. The same people responsible for emergency preparedness will serve as Neighborhood Watch area coordinators, Smith said. We have six districts in West Point, with six area coordinators who will keep the sheriffs department informed, said Howard Stoddard, emergency preparedness coordinator. We feel this is a very important program. We hope to reduce the crime rate in the community through organization, Stoddard said. As we grow we see more of it (crime).
