Rut some of the knights in Davis County drive trucks, wear jeans,1 and carry a; CB microphone in one hand yhile carefully friaking notes with the other. Tljese men, who &ffer help to those in distress, are- part of a local; REACT team, a roup of people who monitor the local Channel 9 citizens band radio for - emergency calls, j REACT, the Radio Emergency Associated Citizens; Team, operates on an international basis, and is a service organization, according to Ben Horejshi, Davis Coutny chapter president, j He said REACT is not a CB club in any sensejof the word," but is one of the largest service organizations in the world. The goal of REACT is to develop a monitoring system tax-exem- non-pro- ft on the official emergency channel of the Citizens Band Radio Service, according to Horejshi. When first organized in 1962 the group was sponsored by Radio Corporation and then by General Motors, but now is a totally independant organization, that has spread across the Hal-licraft- world. REACT members often provide emergency communications when requested by state and local police authorities, the American Red Corss, the Salvation Army, or the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. If a major disruption or crisis does occur, help is available. Ms. Letts directs the work and operation of the1 Family Support Center, located at 1141 W. Antelope Drive. IF is the children who are of prime importance at the Family Support Center. Ms. Letts said if the abuse problems were always of a medical nature, everyone would be working on it. If a parent finds himself or herself in a situation where they feel they are about to loose control and hurt their children, the, center can provide free care for jthe child while the child is in danger. The emergency care can also be 'provided if a parent is involved with, a divorce, family violence drug" or alcohol use, or if a parent is in jail. Medical emergencies, attempted suicide, family deaths, or other crisis situations rpight also place a child in a situation where he is in danger of abuse, neglect or abandonment and thus need the temporary help of the Family Support Center staff.
