The Roy Shopping Center vas chosen because it resembles centers in Florida, the locale for one of the movies most critical scenes. Over 50 extras from the Salt Lakelakeside area were on the Roy set including Layton residents Leetha and Nathaniel Johnson. Its been a beautiful experience. We had a chance to meet a lot of lovely people including the stars who were very pleasant, said Leetha Johnson. According to location manager Dennis Williams, Utahns can expect to see more and more movies shot in the state. ; . , . ; joint staff committees, the educator review teams, are functioning well enough to sc assume such a great challenge. I dont think they are, said Superintendent Lawrence Welling. But I think that they can become prepared. He said their responsibilities would have to be spelled out for them if they are to work efficiently. If a teacher does not agree with hisher evaluation, an appeal is possible through a career ladder review committee. At the exemplary level, the teacher can apply for extra assignments, each which have extra pay attached. Some of these assignments could be: learning coordinator, subject matter coordinator, facilitator of ideas, a mentor to new teachers and department head. Another level of teaching which the committee suggests is the demonstration teacher. These are the teachers who will demonstrate to other educators certain procedures, processes or ideas which could improve teaching curriculum. The report states that the rate of pay for a demonstration teacher, would be determined by anticipated length of service and other factors affecting the difficulty and depth of the project to be undertaken. An additional position, according to the report, could be the cooperating teacher, a teacher who takes time to assist student teachers. Pay would be set at $14 per day over the standard salary. The committee reported that these extra assignments would give an average of $2,500 per participating teacher. According to Welling, the district would be able to support 337 exemplary teachers and 217 demonstration positions.
