County's first clinic for sexually transmitted diseases as word has gotten around says staff epidemiologist Harry Wesche He said the numbers justify the clinic now in its second year of operation in the Davis County Courthouse basement "The patients have always been there It's just a matter of now they know that we're here so chey're coming to us" he said Wesche said the clinic has had an impact on reducing the gonorrhea rate in the county For example he said the Davis County Health Department recorded 141 cases of gonorrhea in 1985 that were treated at other county clinics and local hospitals But that number dropped to 113 cases in 1986 evidence he said that the clinic's methods are working "The clinic is not only for the treatment of the disease but for the opportunity to go out and get the contacts of the disease and get them before the disease has a chance to spread" Wesche said The one disease that has not been reported in the clinic's statistics is acquired immune deficiency syndrome Wesche said his only involvement with potential AIDS patients has been screening people who have come in contact with the disease either through sexual contact blood transfusions or "hard narcotic usage" Wesche said while none of those people tested positive for AIDS he expects some day to see a case in the county "The patient load is going up so by sheer statistics someday it's going to happen" Wesche said His advice to patients is to know their sexual partners and ' practice safe sex habits "Because when you go to bed you just don't go to bed with that one person — you go to bed with everyone that person has gone to bed with" Wesche said The clinic is open only on Wednesdays from 8 am to noon Cost is based on a person's income Wesche said that averages $2 to $5 The epidemiologist said if business keeps growing the clinic may expand to afternoon hours allegation against Kaysville police V KAYSVILLE — The Davis County Sheriffs Office has been called in to
