Dixie and Frank Funk tour China Funks stayed at the beautiful Ramada Inn They found Hong Kong to be a modern city with thousands of places to shop and lots of apartments and business buildings but with narrow streets and very noisy You can see everything from fancy malls to little meat and fish produce markets Sight seeing and snapping photos was fun They saw Hong Kong Islands and Victoria Peak where you could see all over the harbor with big ships and junks then on to Tiger Balm Gardens Another day was spent taking a harbor cruise and seeing the house boats and a floating super market that sold goods to the house boat people And still another tour included going to Kawloon and the New Territories The scenery was beautiful cluding the many duck farms Then back to Flong Kong Island and Stanley Market and more shopping for hand crocheted items and other hand made treasures After almost a months vacation it was time to say goodbye to China and Frank as he flew back to Ping Shuo to resume his work and Dixie back to the good old USA It was a long and tiring flight over the ocean but what a beautiful sight when looking down over San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge Dixie changed planes in San Francisco and flew to Salt Lake City where her son Tim met her at the airport Dixie met people from all over the world Australia England Singapore Netherlands India Italy Germany and also people from all over the United States She says “It was great to go but just as great to see Fillmore and my family and friends again” Leaving from Salt Lake City on 1988 Dixie Funk flew to San August Francisco Tokyo and Shanghai where she went through immigration then on China which was her to Biejing destination a very long 23 hours total time At Beijing she went through customs and met her husband Frank at the airport They stayed overnight at the Great Wall Sheraton Hotel in Beijing then flew by company plane to remote Shangxi Province in the little town of Ping Shuo where Frank is employed for the An TA1 BAO Project for Oxiden-ta- l The people were very Petroleum friendly even though language was a Living conditions in Ping problem Shuo are very poor but the people seem happy They raise beautiful gardens getting their produce to market by donkey and carts The children are special there as they are in the United lots of States happy inquisitive energy and beautiful especially the tle ones in their pants After saying goodbye to Ping Shuo they were off to Beijing by way of train changing trains in Da Tong a 12 hour ride On the train were lots of people visiting playing cards and drinking tea From the station two couriers escorted the Funks to The Ledo Holiday Inn in Beijing While there they did lots of shopping and took a number of tours which included the Great Wall Ming Tombs Forbidden City Summer Palace and Beijing Zoo All this and five million bicycles Then on to Hong Kong by plane Landing in Hong Kong is very tersting the landing strip is right
