Show Business of the Week Car Cosmetics puts on a shine by Ken Rand Car Cosmetics is a new business only a few weeks old The name describes the business “We wash wash and wax steam clean just clean cars up” Dee Church says “Just like car cosmetics” The business is a matter of pride of ownership “That’s exactly what it is” Dee says “and it really doesn’t matter whether it’s cars or your home or your yard or whatever it’s pride of ownership I deal in” The shop itself is incredibly clean Dee A Delta native opened Car Cosmetics in Delta not because he sees a burning need in Millard County for a shop like his though he hopes to prosper but because he loves restoring old cars The business is an extension of that passion “I like old cars” he says “I like tinkering with them and just decided that might be a good business to go into” Why does he like old cars? “Gosh don’t know how to answer that” Dee says “1 just always liked them You drive down the highway and you see an older car and if it looks nice it catches your eye New ones for the last four five or six years can’t tell a Datsun from a Cadillac because every body line is the same” His passion for old cars began in 1974 “I traded some ground for an old Don't say! pickup that I really liked so I jumped right in and restored it” Dee says It was a 1952 Chevy pickup a local Dee restored it drove it and eventually gave it to his son Dee cleans and shines Although anything vehicular his true love is the oldies but goodies He owns 11 cars six for driving and five for show The show cars include a ’47 Chevy convertable a ’53 Cadillac coupe a ’55 Cadillac convertable a ’56 Chevy hardtop and a ’62 Cadillac His love for old cars is also reflected in Classy Chassis a car club he founded a few years ago The club’s third annual car show is scheduled for the weekend of Sept 17 and 18 at the city park in Delta Dee says this year’s show will be the biggest yet with over 60 entrants already registered and more expected Right now Dee is driving a 1962 Cadillac “I just picked that up mostly for the parts” he says “but my wife fell in love with it so I’m it make it nice and restore to going and she’s going to use it presentable for everyday driving” Car Cosmetics is at 47 North 400 West Delta Hours are 8:30 am to six Look for the pm Phone ' ery clean and shiney bright red ’52 Caddy convertable parked out front It’s for sale continued then we want protected! There are a lot of empty miles of desert that may be suitable a facility like this does not have to be placed in a populated area upstream from several communities!” And I ask you: ‘‘Why if this facility is so safe don’t the areas that have had and growth economic development from the industries that produce hazardous waste dispose of it themselves!” DO NOT INSULT US with your "Did anyone do your homework” titude Damn right we did! To phrase yourself “How can you call yourself a citizen of this great nation when you want us to except all our nations WITHOUT the fundamental right to safety that is guaranteed to us by the constitution? As far as Follin’s track record please write to the EPA surely you can read and I’m certain it will be a very enlightening experience! To your statement “Who’s to say the water around here already has pollution from the pesticides” and the rest WILL of that ludicrous argument SAY: I have in my possession documents I received from the US Geological Survey on 9188 that prove the excellent quality of the well water in our areas I will also say again that the notion “more pollution is no worse then some pollution is” no doubt an argument a very uninformed uneducated person might make As to our forefathers perhaps if more would have looked to the future our lakes rivers land and air might not be as polluted all across this nation as it is now! Perhaps those that did look to the future were also called selfish and greedy by the short sighted people of the world I agree “God gave each of us a brain to progress to make mistakes learn to correct our failures and grow from these mistakes and failures” We would be FOOLISH PEOPLE indeed if we were to make the same mistakes that have already been made alse where over and over again! WILL WE NEVER LEARN?! You are wrong about most of us we do not heedlessly complain about anything and your statement “landfills are necessary” is an idiotic remark especially when one may plan on putting it on a water recharge area for an entire valley There has NEVER been a landfill that HAS NOT seeped! You I may be willing to take that chance see that you’re from Columbus to be honest I’m totally Ohio)-b- ut unimpressed with your “bravery" it seems disturbingly “hollow!” Please “don’t” speak to us about UNEDUCATED PEOPLE after reading your letter I suggest that you research and rethink that insulting before you truly do make statement someone mad! can To your article Mr Lindsey l only say have never thought of as being in the gutter or a town that the people were ashamed of nor have ever assumed that your townspeople had no self respect I have lived m Abraham for about 10 years and have l always felt proud to say I live by Leamington and Delta As you know Abraham is not known anywhere but here As far as the townspeople of “sitting on their backsides” and allowing other towns to tell them what to do you are terribly wrong and truwhat ly feel sorry for you! It’s true your town decides will be felt by all ol us It’s Our greatest hope that the overall picture that the safety of the valley and of the water WILL be addressed We do have FACTS and met VERIFIED FACTS! We do not believe that because a few people didn’t look before they took that giant leap that everyone else has to make the same mistake A facility like this has NO business being placed in a populated area over a recharge zone or upstream from other communities! This Hazardous Waste Facility is not something that will just affect your town and to ask anyone to tell their neighbors to go to hell is a gross injustice! As to the people of Lynndyl I say to you: “As long as have lived here have never heard anyone malign your town or you! I’m sorry that you should have been insulted in such a manner as I cannot believe that that article anyone would say such a thing about their own community!” Janet L Turner Have you seen this woman? officials Law enforcement throughout central Utah and elsewhere are looking for a Panguitch woman last seen Aug 28 in Moab Beulah “Boots” Lyle 53 did not return as expected from a trip to visit her in Silverton Colo She was last seen buying gas about noon Sunday Aug 28 in Moab Her locked car was found abandoned in Richfield later that day with her suitcase glasses and personal mail inside No concrete leads have yet been developed according to Sevier County Sheriff John Meacham Jim Lyle a Panguitch businessman to the Garfield reported County Sheriffs office on Monday Aug 29 that his wife had not returned as expected the previous afternoon Less than three hours later her car a 1972 Cadillac sedan was found abandoned in Richfield A search of the car and questions asked of residents in the immediate area gave no further clues to her whereabouts Lyle is described as tall 190 pounds with black hair and brown eyes She was reported wearing a black jacket flowered print blouse Thur Sept 15 198 -
