I just wanted to focus really on one sport, she said. I still love basketball, but I just needed a break from it. Brown said the decision to play softball rather than basketball was difficult, and she wished her former basketball teammates well during the remainder of their season. Head softball coach Randy Simkins said having Brown at the beginning of the season has been exactly what the team needed since DSCs former shortstop, Ashley McFarland, graduated. He said, We graduated an shortstop in McFarland, who was pretty dang good, and we need somebody else to step in the middle of our lineup somebody thats a big, talented player that has the chance to carry the load like Ashley did. Simkins said Browns talent is special and is evident in being able to play two sports. Shes kind of in a class by herself as far as the things she can do physically, he said. Of course getting the crowd involved is something every player wants. Jones said he enjoys playing at Burns Arena for that very reason. Thats a really fun atmosphere, Jones said. He throws the discus and the javelin, and hes really good at that, Judkins said. He kind of had to make a decision: Do I go to a school that has track and basketball or do I just go play basketball? We just kept recruiting him and calling him like we do and then he committed to us. The rest is will most likely be the end of great basketball career for Jones. The biggest thing Ill miss is the competitiveness of everything and just playing with your teammates and having fun on and off the court, Jones is top-view- ed U.S. TV show said. She said playing one sport is tough enough, but playing two sports was a real burden academically. I go to Hawaii twice and miss two weeks (of school) right there, Brown said. You can read the book, but if you dont have the professor its just like taking an online class. By focusing on softball, Brown said she was able to get caught up in school during the fall semester and finally start her major. Its a lot more interesting in my classes, she said. I gain so much more knowledge going to class every day rather than missing half my classes for both sports. f tf in a row it has set a record. Nielsen estimated Monday that 111.3 million people watched, at any given time, as the New York Giants beat the New England Patriots on Sunday night. That slightly beat the 111 million who tuned in last year to see Green Bay stop Pittsburgh. The game Sunday, on NBC, was up in the air until the final play and Nielsen said 1 17.7 million people were watching during tire last half hour. Nielsen also reported that the game was seen in 47 percent of homes with a TV in the nation, making it the sixth-be- st rated Super Bowl in history and the best in 26 years since Chicagos blowout of New England in 1986 drew a 48.3 rating. (The disparity between rising viewership and ratings that dont seem to correlate comes from the rating measuring the percentage of homes with a television that are tuned in. And because the U.S. population keeps growing each year, a ratings point represents an increasingly larger number of households.) Nielsen also said Madonnas show was seen by an estimated 1 14 million people, the Super Bowl halftime entertainment show on record.
