On Nov. 1, 1998, Dixie College officially took possession of the property, although it was on Monday, Feb. 8, 1999 when the pool was first open to the public, as opposed to only fitness center students. "This is the first semester that we, as a college, have had full control over the pool," said Fitness Center Director Christian Hildebrandt. "We're trying to make it into a recreational pool for our students." Fitness center students still have the privilege of using the pool free of charge, but now students not enrolled in the fitness center can use the pool with an admission fee of $1. The Habitat for Humanity of Southwest Utah is an organization that builds homes with people in need, to provide decent, safe shelter for families in Washington County. Habitat sells these homes for no profit and no interest. These families contribute hundreds of sweat equity hours in the building of their own home or that of others.
