Over the weekend the Rebels took down the fourth and sixth place teams in the Scenic West Athletic Conference to take them one step closer to the region title. The nets in the Bums Arena may need to be changed after Friday nights matchup between Dixie and Salt Lake Community College. Both teams shot better than 50 percent from floor and because of the lack of defense, the score sky rocketed 103-9"Our defense was not very good, we gave up a lot of shots, but we had a terrific night on offense and our defense was good in spurts," Head Coach Jeff Kidder said of Friday night's win. "Jim Roban had a terrific night which carried over to Saturday, and we rebounded really well. Our defense could have been better but we played good enough to win." Speaking of "unstoppable," and speaking of Jim Roban, he fits the description. Roban drained 24 points in the first half, in fact, with eight minutes left in the first half, Roban alone scored as many points as the entire SLCC team combined. He missed only two three point shots going from the arc, and had a flawless free throw record He ended the game with 36 points and he was definitely "in the zone." and the Lady Two seconds left, the scored tied at Rebels had just one play to make. The Lady Rebels struggled for most of the game on the offense, shooting only 33 percent from the floor the entire night and 28 percent in the first half. This will force Dixie College into a rebidding process," according to Scott Talbot, Executive Director of Business Affairs at Dixie College. EMIA has notified Dixie College that they are unable to support their current benefits contract for the remaining two years of the contract. "There are many factors that have led to EMIA's current status," according to Debra Bryant, Executive Director of Human Resources, in a letter to Dixie's faculty and staff. "They have been subsidizing Dixie College and many other higher education ," institutions and public school districts for the past three years and can no longer afford to do so. "Dixie College's loss ratio for the year is 136 percent. That is, for every $100 in premiums we pay the EMIA, they pay out $136 in claims and $10 in administrative costs." "For the last three years, they have been subsidizing $18 million worth of proall grams," said Bryant. "They've used up They thought their subsidizing money. they'd been able to cover it with surplus money, but that wasn't the case." Bryant used to be a member on the EMIA board, but because Dixie College has to go up for bids, she resigned due to a "conflict of interest." In addition to Dixie College, Weber State University, the College of Eastern Utah and Salt Lake Community College are also effected by EMIA's broken contract. University of Utah and Southern Utah University are self- - insured and uneffected, along with Snow College, whose guarantee ended last year. "They went through this whole thing last year, so they have already made their corrections," said Bryant.
