February 17, 1999 ews Editor: Jennifer Peltz jennpeltzhotmail.com Airframe and Plant Mechanics Program Terminated By Jennifer Peltz jennpeltzhotmail. com The Board of Regents announced at the end of January that the airframe and plant mechanics program at Dixie College will not continue after the next two years. This decision was based on the low enrollment of students in the class and the high facility cost per stu- dent, according to Technology Department Head Dan Smith. "I don't think they should close the prow gram," said student Brian Jensen. "I've learned a lot from that class." The program will not end immediately so that the students currently enrolled have the opportunity to complete the course, which takes two years. The airframe and plant mechanics program is a part of the flight program offered at Dixie College. "There was a rumor floating around that it was the flight program that was terminated," Smith said. "People have called from as far away as New York when they heard about it." The Dixie College flight program is affiliated with the Aeroleon Flight School in Las Vegas, where they provide three airplanes for training. Dixie College offers an Associate of Science degree in Professional Flight, and another in Professional Flight and Management. For the past six years, the military has put a lot of mechanics out on the street and there wasn't much of a demand for them, said Smith. But the program has picked up since then. ht Briefs News - - n fi Student Support Services will host a career planning workshop at 1 p.m in the Udvar Hazy Building, room 121, and in the Boeing Auditorium on Tuesday, February 23.
