This is a question we should ask ourselves every time we set down to watch the tube. A recent study showed that a typical teenager will have seen 18,000 murders and been exposed to 350,000 commercials by the time heshe becomes an adult. This is shocking. It has been shown that people will become desensitized to murder from watching T.V. so much, and--thewill feel that this crime is not as severe as it really is. Also, this causes more Americans to see the world as more dangerous and frightening than it really is. According to C.B.S. researchers, the average person spends more time watching T.V. than anything else, other than sleeping and working. That means that the average person watches around four hours and five minutes of T.V. per day and the percentage is rising each year. Research teams have discovered that T.V. may instill an attitude of withdrawal from direct involvement in life, and sometimes causes a drop in individual ability. In other words, people could be walking around in a fantasy, dreaming their lives away. People should be more creative with their lives. They should get out and do something, instead of sitting home and being entertained by a computer. Are people going to live in a fantasy and not face their problems? Humans should be too smart for this and should not let television be a major part of their lives. y Get Summer Jobs Early Even though the frost is still on the pumpkin, now is the time to be thinking about summer employment, and to be doing something about it. Many summer jobs, especially those in the National Parks and those with various government agencies, have application deadlines of January 15th, 1983, thats less than two weeks from now. These early application deadline jobs are often the best with many offering pay scales well above the minimum. If you need a summer job, or if you want some high adventure in your summer employment, act now by applying at the Job Development Office of Dixie College. The office is located on the second floor of the Student Center. Following are some of the many job listings now available - but remember, January 15th, 1983 is the deadline for applications. He not only had a major role in the film, but he also directed it. I was convinced of the character he was portraying. There were only three other actors in this film, making it one of the smallest casts I've seen in awhile. All the actors did a fine job, which helps the story be more realistic. pursues the Synopsis: An obsessed the British who into went friend of a missing path Colombian wilderness prospecting for gold. In the process, he encounters an insane gold miner who has been digging the same mine for twenty-nin- e years. This old miner does not like and he usually tries to get rid of around, strangers them. I really enjoyed this film because it rolled along with adventurous suspense. The scenery at the beginning of the film was magnificent. It got me excited right from the start. There isnt any vivid violence which was nice for a change, and the movie is basically clean in all other departments. This film is already a box office hit, as I thought it would be. I recommend this film to everyone, because I think most will enjoy it. This one gets an eight on my scale of one to ten. FIRST BLOOD how know dont Sylvester Stalone does it, but hes come up with another hit. This one is as good as the original ROCKY. Stalone brings something into his movies that others never seem to be able to do. Hes going to be around Hollywood for a long time if he keeps movies like this coming out. Brian Dennehy also stars in this film, and also did a good job. I always make sure to see his movies because I met him about four years ago in Atlantic City. This makes it really special to see him on film. Richard Crenna also does a fine job. Beret who served in Synopsis: An Vietnam passes through a small town and is harassed by the local Sheriff. He ends up getting arrested and then breaks out. He then starts a small war against the little town. This is one of the best movies Ive seen in a long time. This film is doing so well that it hasnt come to St. George, because the producers are demanding a bigger percentage of the gross. Its going to make a lot of money, I couldnt wait to see it, so when I was in Los Angeles last week I saw it. It cost me $4.50--i- f you can believe it. Everyone should see this movie because it makes a statement concerning how our country treats a lot of our Vietnam veterans. This one gets a Ten on my scale of one to ten.
