I wish to thank you all for making this quarter the best in the history of Dixie College. Reports to me from the four corners of the campus have confirmed my impressions that you are an outstanding group of young men and women. For various reasons, some of you may not be coming back to Dixie next quarter. If, by chance, your departure is because of low grades or lack of finances, may I suggest the following : 1. Dont give up on yourself because of low grades during your - points included Robert Wahlquist as a finalist in Prose Interpretation, Laura Deem as a finalist in Speech to Entertain, David Persinger as a finalist in Extemporaneous Speaking and Chris Oldham as a finalist in Poetry Interpretation. This win against Palomar College is especially exciting, commented Michael Woodward, Forensic Coach at Dixie, because only one other time have we ever beaten them, and that year we finished higher at Nationals than at any other time in our history. Persuasive Speaking came from the Dixie team, with Kristin Catherall capturing first place, Richelle Holt finishing third and Robert Wahlquist and Karen Lloyd qualifying as finalists. Richelle Holt also added points to the win by finishing second in Prose Interpretation. Dixies next competition will come against the College of Eastern Utah on January 14th and 15th. Spread the Dixie Spirit 2. Dont drop out of school for financial reasons until you have exhausted all possible sources of financial help. Under the present general economic circumstances in the country, you are much better off in school than out on the open market looking for a fulltime job. Sacrifice now and prepare yourself first quarter of college. Carefully assess the reasons for academic failure and then come back next quarter determined to turn the tide. You can do it ! I I selves. for the time when good opportunities will again be plentiful. Bill Fowler, Director of Student Services at Dixie College, is without question the best college recruiting officer in the State of Utah, but he cant by himself tell the DIXIE or radiate the DIXIE STORY SPIRIT to all of those who need to hear the message. Recent studies have shown that by far the most effective recruiting and public relations tool available to any educational institution is the loyal and enthusiastic student who, by example and word of mouth, spreads the word to family and friends about the advantages and benefits of attending Dixie College. We all know that Dixie College is not without its problems and weaknesses, but in my biased opinion, Dixie has NO SUPERIORS AND VERY FEW EQUALS. If you have caught the Dixie Spirit spread it around liberally during the holidays. On behalf of the Administration, Faculty and Staff, I extend sincere best wishes for a joyous and peaceful Christmas season. Travel safely; give of yourselves generously; receive humbly, and return to Dixie ready for the exciting challenges of the New Year. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Alton L. Wade President |
