The Rebels will run, play pressure defense, and will have twelve players who will be capable of contributing to the Rebel cause. Brent Wade and Rob Gentry have been called to Chile and England on LDS missions. Chris McMullin and Ron Ence will be continuing their basketball careers at Utah State University. Steve Flint will play for the University of California at San Diego and Olies Dockery has headed for Brigham Young University at Hawaii. Due to the loss of the above players, the Rebels will have to replace five starters for the 1982-8season. To accomplish that the coaching staff will look to two returning players from last years team: Wes Hymas, a 66 forward who played in 34 games for the Rebels as a freshman, started four games, and averaged six points and four rebounds while playing 14 minutes per game; and 60 point guard, Ron Butterfield, who played in 20 games as a first year Rebel, averaging four points per game. Ron shot a team high, 90 percent, from the free throw line last year. Even though the Rebels lost two players to the mission field they are fortunate to have four men returning from missions. Those players are John Baucom, a 66 forward who averaged 7.6 points and 3 rebounds per game. Baucom played in 25 games as a freshman and was a starting forward during the last half of the season. Gordon Anderson, who stands 67, averaged 8 points and 5 rebounds in his first season at Dixie. Gordon will be a strong challenger for the starting center position. 3 2 6 3 Rich Gremillion, who is now 69, will be the other player vying for the center spot. Rich averaged 4 points and 3 rebounds as a freshman. Gordon Kener, a 61 guard who averaged 3 points per game and shot 90 percent from the free throw line as a freshman, will add quickness and great shooting range to the Rebel back court. Head Coach Neil Roberts and his staff have also had a banner recruiting year. Several of the top Utah high school players have elected to continue their basketball and careers at Dixie College, two of whom were the Utah players of the year last season. From Bountiful High School, the state champions, comes Dan Bell, a 66 forward. Bell averaged 17 points per game during his senior year and was named the most valuable player in the division. He was named to the first team on the Tribune, Deseret News, and coaches teams. He scored 22.5 points per game as a high school senior. He is a great passer and plays in a manner very similar to that of Rebel Danny Tarkanian. Robert Maxwell, one of the Highland High School Maxwells, will be pressing for the starting point guard position. A 60 floor general, who averaged 19 points per game last year, he has great passing ability and is a very intelligent player. He was also named to three teams. The Rebels will have four players who will be able to play the big guard position. They include Shawn Anderson, who played at Ricks College before being called to an LDS mission and who has decided to finish his junior college eligibility at Dixie. At 65 Shawn will be able to play both inside and outside. He averaged 16 points and 7 rebounds as a freshman at Ricks. Alan Raymond, a 64" jump shot artist from Logan High School, averaged 15.5 points per game his senior season. He has good shooting range and his quickness will be a great asset to the Rebel guard line. Three honors were awarded to Raymond last year. Steve Sholtec from Roy High School will bring his 65" to Dixie this year. Steve is an excellent shooter and a 3-- 4-- 4-- 4-- tough, aggressive player. He averaged 15 points last season. Steve was named to three teams. From state champion Mountain View High School comes 64 Byron Vaetoe. Byron was named the Utah r County game Most Valuable Player. He will bring great competitive desire and strong basketball ability to Dixie. Byron was also named to three teams. From Orem High School comes Gary McGinn, a 6'2 guard who averaged 14 points per game. As one can see, the Rebel basketball team will be made up of talented players. Even though it will be a season of learning, Dixie College Rebel Basketball should again be in contention for conference, region, and national honors. 3-- All-Sta- Intramural Football comes to a close by Glade Walker With only finals left to semi-final- s play-off- s THRO WINDOW SERVICE! 653 East St. George Blvd. rsT BACON BOUNTY CHICKEN SANDWICH Small Fry 12682 thru 123182 RANCH BURGER CHEESE Small Fry Circle $1 I Valid 12682 .89 thru Medium Drink Small Fry gy, 51-7- dlrcCic 123182 9 sf HAMBURGERS HR ISTH AS GOLD EN FISH SANDWICH CORN DOGS 1 3$T09 Valid 12682 thru 123182 ntic ijlTCle Circle 12582 Valid thru aaaflisaaiiEB -- 3$1.09 JIrctic 12582 "Circle Valid thru I play this year, Intramural Football is winding up its season.
