Most Utah parents, she said, want to be more actively involved in their childrens education, but many dont know how to go about it or just what to do to be effective. "Every ParentEvery Child is the name for the new program, said Mrs. Bangerter, who add d that it complements the educational ALERT program announced in December by her husband, Gov. Norm Bangerter. ALERT, Agenda for Leadership in Educational Resources for Tomorrow, is a multifaceted program announced by the governor to bring attention to the growing inability of the educational system to absorb rapidly increasing student enrollments forecast each year throughout the rest of the century. In addition to identifying burgeoning enrollments, ALERT proposes a variety of steps schools can take or consider to alleviate the problem to some degree. She said the program will emphasize ways in which parents can help their children be more successful in school. Parents can reinforce what children learn at school and can provide a climate in the home conducive to learning. This is something for parents to get involved in, said Mrs. Bangerter. It wont cost anything. There are things parents can do in the home. Carol Clark, Gov. Bangerters education specialist, said many school teachers send monthly calendars of classroom activities home with students. Parents can use these to focus activities reinforcing schoolwork and also use them to have an overview of what their children are doing in parental-invol- vement "I think this will encourage better relationships between parents and schools," said Dr. Clark of the program Mrs. Bangerter said the program is in the developmental stage and that it should be ready in several months. PTA, private consultants and others are involved in developing the program. Mrs. Bangerter said her program wasnt meant to be a substitute for school financirg. She said the program mnt being developed to she e up the existing educational system but to focus on an area the home that educational researchers have long concluded has a major affect on student learning and motivation. Researchers have demonstrated that parents can dramatically influence their childrens achievement, said Mrs. Bangerter. parental-invol- vement 0RSED.03B A top rated sewing mochine company has a limited supply of sewing chines painted with a ridiculous dye lot mix.
