Tom Shimizu The jails mental health wing has 13 beds, a number acknowledged by officials asbeing less than half the needed number. Better Lay-Ou- t The existing booking area with a capacity will still be used. Mr. Morgan noted. But the new room would have a better he explained For now. the budget team is rejecting plans to cover the jail s exercise court as suggested by a federal judge. "The completed project will help to reduce tensions among inmates, who can use the compounds to relieve some of their frustrations." the sheriff's request said, pointing out that summer temperatures in the open court often exceed 90 degrees. Commissioners also said no to proposals for a new building on the jail's east side and replacement of the sheriffs firing range. Lower-prioritprojects receiving little support from the commission total about $615,000 in Sheriff Pete Hayward's $1,440,000 capital spending proposal.
