Woody Tribune Business Editor Intennountain Gas.Co,, Boise-base- d natural gas utility, has its best year in 1964, Ralph F. Gibson, president, said in the annual report just issued to shareholders. f Operating revenues of $14,461,- ' 585 were 15 per cent ahead of a year-ag- o Customers inperiod. creased from 42,944 to 48,768. ' Weather, customer growth and , I ivSTf-"- ' w new industrial loads were important factors in the years performance, i he said. The company added several new industrial customers during , Mr. Woody 1964, which used gas only for a few months during the last part of the year. These industries will operate for a full year in 1965 and will generate a considerable increase in revenues. .. .The company paid its first common stock dividend in 1964, equal to 60 cents a share. Accelerated demand for expansion of gas services in d communities has been as great as when the original gas plant was built inl'956 to 1957, he said. This fact was reflected in 1964 with a total new plant construction figure of approximately $5,600,000. It appears now that new construction in 1965 will probably exceed this figure due to growth of the communities in our service area. The company delivers natural gas to nearly 50 communities in southern Idaho, extending frofo Montpelier in the east to Weiser in the west. J . Considerable attention also was given to the statement by Treasury Secretary Douglas Dillon that U.S. gold losses in the second quarter might be less the indicated outthan one-haflow of 825 million dollars in the first quarter. But the average value of each unit was up comparatively indication of higher construction costs and a decline In multiple-uni- t housing construction. The figures are from the University of Utahs Bureau of Business Economic Research publication: Utah Construction Report. There were 371 permits issued in February with value of $4,164,100 compared to 393 and $5,530,500 a year ago. Even so, the residential permit rate was up 26 per cent over January and value was up nearly $800,000 over January. The value of total construction in the state in February was down some two million dollars from January and three million dollars from the 1964 period. Major reason for the drop from the previous month was due to the fact that in January, Salt Lake City had authorized several large alternation projects including a $1,400,000 facelifting for the Union Pacific Building at Main and South Temple and a $450,000 addition to the citys 15th North sewage treatment plant. These tended to balloon the months total.
