Show CARRANZAXPECTS FULL RECOGNITION CAPTURES CITY OF MEXICO AFTER FIERCE FIGHT WITH FORCE UNDER ZAPATA. Orders Three Hundred Carloads of Food for Famine Sufferers, and is Laying Plans for Recognition by United States. Washington. Official dispatches to the stale department from Consul John H. Silliman at Vera Cruz confirm con-firm the capture of Mexico City by the forces of the Carranza government govern-ment and announce that General 'Gonzales will take in 300 carloads of food for the famine sufferers in that city. The next step is expected to be that General Carranza will present his claim to the state department for recognition as the de facto power in Mexico. Such a claim must be passed upon by President Wilson personally, as he has taken over entire direction of Mexicau matters. The lighting on the outskirts of the city was described as severe, "Zapatistas "Za-patistas having lost 3,500 men, four .pieces of artillery and a great quantity quan-tity of smail arms and ammunition." General Gonzales says that the retreating re-treating Zapatistas were pursued by a portion of his army to cut off their retreat. |
