Show Some of the recently patented switch j boards and signals have demonstrated beyonJ a doubt that wrecks can be practically stopped. On the Union Pacific last year the decrease of loss of life was almost 100 per cent, which goes to show that the signal switch has worked work-ed the advent of a new day. But today the Union Pacific has taken another im- J portant step in progression. Dr. Fred- j rick Milliner of Omaha, an electrical ex- pert in the employment of the railroad, j who was in New York some time ago, says that all Union Pacific trains will soon be directed by wireless, and that each train will possess a wireless station. Experiments have demonstrated beyond be-yond a doubt t lat this important feature will be a success, and if such such be the case it is supposed that wrecks will j soon be a feature of the past. Twoim- portant wirele33 stations will be estab-j estab-j lished this summer, one at Sydney, Neb. and one at Cheyenne, Wyo., 103 miles apart on a fingle line. Communication Com-munication with moving trains between I these stations will be very common and I will be the means of preventing the heretofore careless wrecks and loss : of life. l The wireless telephone which has ; been devised and has been in use in I Omaha is sufficiently powerful for mes-' mes-' sages to be receiyed from a considerable distance simply by attaching the receiving re-ceiving apparatus to an ordinary um brella held over the operator's head. The ordinary telephone head set is used by the person receiving. This is the time for spring cleaning and planting, and the people would do well to plant more lawns, trim the trees and clear away the dead rubbish of ..he winter. Nothing will add more to the happiness and health of the people. There are several filthy back yards in town that are a manace to the welfare of the town and several ditches are full of decayed leaves, paper and other trash that should be removed before the water should be turned into the cistern. People ought not to wait for ditch notices, but they ought to get busy now. Our towns ought to put on their best appearance to harmonize with the beautiful spring days. About all that comes from life anyway is happiness I of contentment and why not make it j the cleanest and best? |
