CIAZ CONTEMPLATES ESCAPE FROM MEXICO According to newpaper gossip of the day President Diazis planning an escape from Mexico which looks as though the war would be brought to a speedy termination. term-ination. The exact cause for his escape is not definatly known but the Herald gives some feasible reasons. Well authenticated reports come from Mexico, from those near to the person of President Diaz, that he has made all arrangements to escape from the country. coun-try. It may be doubted whether, in this enlightened day and age of the warld, the life of the aged ruler would be in danger even if he were captured by the insurrectionists. Probably, however, how-ever, Diaz would prefer not to spend the few of his remaining vears as a private citizen- where tie had reigned so long and where he had enjoyed the absolute ab-solute power which he grasped for himself him-self in total disregard of the constitution of the republic. The route of Diaz to the position of power which he has swayed as president of Mexico was a bloody one, and was strewn with corpses. The ruling class, the men of wealth and broad acres, had trouble in getting justice from the president presi-dent or his representatives in state or city government or on the bench, but the reons, the common people, had no such rights.
