Show Results of Land Show Cheap lands in Utah, which with proper pro-per development are not to be excelled j for agricultural purposes, as proven by the Utah exhibit at the Pacific Land ; Show in Los Angeles, will, in the opinion of Prof. Lewis A. Merrill-, who has just returned from the land show, result in . many of the 'eastern farmers who have t found California land values beyond j their reach, 'coming to Utah with substantial sub-stantial investments during the coming season. "Among the hundreds of thousands of visitors at the show," he says, "there were many practical farmers from the east, who have come west in search of a desirable place to settle. Despite the fact that the majority of these have passed through Utah on their westward journey, many will re.urn to Utah with substantial investments, and largely because of the impression created by the Utah exhibit. "The lack of obportunities for obtaining ob-taining agricultural lands at satisfactory satisfac-tory prices in California figures largely in the disappointment of eastern farmers farm-ers who went to California to settle. The days of low priced lands in California Califor-nia are over, vvnile in Utah dure is still any amount of good lands to be had at a small figure." According to Air. Merrill, there were eastern farmers there who had passed through Utah, who did not realize tne opportunities afforded in tnis state until un-til tney visiteJ tne Jtth section at the land show. U tan's display, Mr. Merrill says, was among toe foremost exhibits and was swarmed with thousands of interested, in-terested, inquiring vis. .ors daily. Although there were miiy displ n's of citrous fruits, Uta.i had tne only di-i-play of apples at t.-u sno.v. an 1 a grai.i exnibit thateisily excelled all others. The dry farming opp )rtunities in Utan were strikingl; protr iei wi.h spici-mens spici-mens or' sage brush an i dry farm w ie.it, shoeing roots tnit h id b3en e.icr icceJ from a depth of t.veive and riftee i feet in the groun 1. "There is no doubt in my min 1." Mr. Merrill savs, "but what the greater part of those unable to secure ljnds in California will return to Utah with the view of further investigating the opportunities oppor-tunities to be had here." This return of the western land-seekers will result in many new Utan settlers, set-tlers, as in various parts of the state agricultural activities are increasing and offer a convincing argument to tne prospective settler. In the opinion of Mr. Merrill, eqjally as many land seekers were reached by , the western display as were reached at the land show held -in Omaha several weeks ago. j Tiie California papers, he says, aided ; much in the work of the Utah delegation, delega-tion, which was treated with fair and courteous consideration on every hand. |
