Show ((Witty JQiJ L J HUNTINGTON The weateer is beautiful these days. Every body is busy now getting the wood and coal close to the door, they don't w int to go far when it gets cold after while. Next Saturday is Mutual day. That's the time to get the fuel for the poor. There will be a dance in the evening and the young ladies will furnish supper for all that haul wood. We are expecting expect-ing a nice lot of it this time for the needy and while the roads are good. The cellar under J W Nixon's store has been somewhat leaky and W. B. Mathie, the Mason, has put in the past week repairing and making it safe to put all the goods away that his four-horse four-horse team brings double loaded twice a week, as the four rooms above are about full to overflow now. We want plenty for the Christmas trade and some left to fall back on during the bad road season. 1 On Monday evening there was a grand : social in the hall. The occasion was in the shape of a surprise on the retire-ing retire-ing Stake Sunday School officers, Wood-i Wood-i ward and Johnson, It was quite a success. suc-cess. All the officers and teachers of our Sunday school took part. There : was lunch and punch in abun kance and plenty of well popped corn as a desert. A nice program of music and reading was ren lered and a very pleasant evening even-ing w as spent. An invitation was hard-! hard-! ed out to all the Stake aids but none of them were there. The new Stake Superintendent Sup-erintendent took charge. We had a nice Ward conference last Sunday. Stake Counselor A. G. Jewkes ', and Clerk Sorenson were here and heard some of the reports of the different or ganizations of the ward. They gave : much good instruction and council and I had many good words for our Sunday I school. ! Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Johnson of the E. S. A. faculty were visiting with i relatives and friends 1-ist Sun lay. We i always bid them welcome home. Lumber is being haulded out about as fMSt as it is hauled in. Teams are loading load-ing from the yards almost hourly, that shows something doing in Emery county ' We have no serious sick here and all the ailing ones are on the improve. We all feel good over here, i Manager Leonard of the Co-op has ! just returned from Salt Lake City where he has been replenishing his stock and i the store already begins to look better ! and will continue as -he shelves fill up j with the needful. CLEVELAND H. J. Richards is in a very critical con dition, he is suffering with a complication complica-tion of heart trouble. He is not expected expect-ed to recover. Ward conference was held here last Sunday. President Oveson and Counselor Coun-selor Wall were present. They gave some very timely instructions, they also completed the ward organization by giv ing Bishop Larsen his counselors, he has been laboring without counselors since July. Louis P. Oveson and Lars P. Larsen were chosen as first and second counselors respectively, they are both highly respected citizens of the town. Louis P. Oveson was, until recently, stake president of the Y. M. M. I. A. while Lars P. Larsen has been one of the Presidents of the Ninty First Quorum of Seventies for a number of years. Santa has made his visit at the Co-op store leaving all kinds of things to delight de-light little boys and girls, he hasn't forgotten for-gotten to leave things for the older ones. Ruth Whimpey met a painful accident Wednesday afternoon while playing basketball which resulted in a broken collar bone. Dr. Hill of Huntington was called to reduce the fracture. Miss Ruth is getting along nicely under the circumstances. Mr. and Mrs. John Whimpey had about the happiest Thanksgiving of any one hereabout, two little girls came to their home and after looking around desired to stay and enjoy the hospitality of the Whimpey home, although speaking a foreign tongue they made known by gestures and peculiar little sounds that they would remain and call Jack and Sadie papa and mamma as soon as they had acquired the language. Jack says the oniy thing that could have made him happier would have been for three to come instead of two. Mother and babes doing well and papa getting better bet-ter rapidly. Bishop Larsen has been confined to his room for a few days with an attack of pneumonia, he is better now. ORANGEVILLE Orangeville enjoyed a cleaning up day j Friday, 26th. A number of our energe tic men and boys were out with plows and scrapers. The work on main street being most noticable, all stumps, brush and weeds were hauled away as well as making level all uneven places. If the Town Marshal will see to it now and keep the water from over-flowing the ditch banks (which it is now doing) do-ing) our town will be quite presentable. The Ladies Aid Club served a hot dinner din-ner to the workers. The members of this organization appreciate very muth the efforts of their townsmen, as well as those of the Dramatic Association, for theirs is a good cause, the Dramatic Drama-tic association giving to the Ladies Aid Club a generous sum, which went to help swell the Social hall repairing fund. The Ladies Aid Club met at Mrs. Kate Fox's home Wednesday, after the business bus-iness was disposed off, the program was as follows: Reading Civics in the Home, Mrs. Nettie Crawford Lecture on Domestic Science was held over until next meeting, as well as physical culture exercises. Reading, ATerrible Charge, Mrs Kate Fox. Singing, National Anthem America, by those present. Mrs. Fox served a very dainty lunch. The occasion bing the anniversary of her birthday. Two new members were added to our roll. Our district schools are doing a fine work. Principal Fred Reid is a very capable young man and has also an excellent ex-cellent staff of teachers. There is considerable sickness among the children also a few of the grovn people are afflic. ted. The Relief Society sisters met with Missionery O.J.Sitterud, Jr. 's wife and family Thursday, 1st. A most enjoyable enjoy-able afternoon was spent in conversation conversa-tion and an unusually good impromptu program was rendered. We all wish Eldr Sitterud and all other elders a Merry Christmas. Rob Woodard is building an addition to his house which is. certainly an improvement. im-provement. Mr. and Mjs. Elliot Fox are visiting with Airs. Fox's sister, Mrs. Samuel Je-vkes at Sunnyside. Dame Rumor says we will have some Christmas brides. Orangeville has some mighty pretty girls and as industrious as they are pretty. ' Mr. and Mrs. Jasper Robertson gave a reception to their many relatives, the occasion being the marriage of tneir daughter Florence to Air. Fred Tatton. The affair was a success. Airs. Robertson Robert-son is a most hospitable hostess. We are promised all sorts of amusement amuse-ment for holidays, not a few of them being theaters. The married folks will have their annual ball as usual. We all enjoy these parties and there is nothing we all enjoy so much as a good sociable time, so get to work, you committee folks. . . , . Road Supervisor W. S. Peacock is doing do-ing an excellent piece of work on the county road south of Orangeville. EMERY Next Friday evening there will De a married people's party. There will be dancing interspersed with lunch. A good time is expected. Mr and Mrs. Seth Allen -are hre on a short visit previous to leaving for their mission. They have 'a host of friends in our town who wish Jdiem success. suc-cess. There was one carload of lucern seed shipped to Mr. Black and it is expected expect-ed that there will soon be two more. A fine girl has arrived at thehome of Mr. and Mrs. James Simonsen. County Supt. D. C. Woodward visited visit-ed our school last Tuesday. He said he was pleased with the work done and gave the teachers some encouraging words. One of the steam threshers finished up the work of this season and the other oth-er two machines will get through in the near future. |
