Show SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS WEDNESDAY Community Cox named outstanding student representative at MCC Colette Cox, a resident of Fredcnia, AZ, was named the Outstanding Graduate Representative at Mohave Community Colleges North Mohave Campus. Cox, the daughter of Marilyn Cox of Fredonia and James Cox of Hyrum, UT, was 7 City Council Resolution MAY 5. 1999 and president of the newly chartered Beta Eta Tau Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, an Honor Sor colleges. Colette, who is 21 years of age, running her own daycare business and raising her two year old daughter Sabrina, began taking classes at Mohave Community College in the Fall of 1997. During that time, she has been named to the Deans List all four semesters and maintained a 4.0 grade point average. She has established herself Reads Program, which placed student volunteers in elementary classrooms to work with young readers. In 1998, Colette was named to and mentioned in Whos Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges. On May 14, Colette will receive her Associates Degree in Liberal Arts from Mohave Community College. Peggy Oakleaf, Director of Student Services, said of Colette, She is an amazing individual. We have always been able to count on Colette to see a project through to its successful completion. We would welcome more students with Colettes motivation and capabilities. We are proud to have Colette represent North Mohave Campus at graduation and wish her great success for the future. In the fall, she will continue Resolution declaring the week of May 1 5 as Law Enforcement Week in the City of Kanab, Utah. 9-- Whereas , the city council places the safety of its citizens above all other concerns, and Whereas, our police department provides excellent law enforcement services to the city, and WThereas, law enforcement officers in our city on a daily basis risk their lives to insure the safety of our citizens, and Whereas, we, as a city council, would like to recognize the accomplishments and hard work of our dedicated law enforcement officers, and Whereas, the State of Utah and the nation will recognize law enforcement efforts during the week of May 9- - May 15, and Whereas , numerous programs have been established in our city and elsewhere throughout the state to emphasize the prevention of criminal activity and many of these programs are sponsored by police departments. AliveMature Driving course would be held in Kanab on May 13 and 14. The American Asso- ciation of Retired Persons (AARP) developed this course as an aid for drivers 55 years of age. This course gives information on age related problems as pertaining to older drivers. Examples are slower reaction time, medications, vision and hearing problems. Over the years many of us have fallen into the poor driving habits. This course serves as a reminder of not only the law, but how to avoid near miss situations. The course is given in two 4 hour sessions over two days. Fee for the course is $8.00. There are no tests given as this class is designed as a refresher for experienced drivers. It is planned to give the class at the Kanab Senior Center at 1:00 p.m. on both days. 0 or Please call either 0 for more information and to reserve your place in the class. At least nine people are needed to have the class. Please register early. Utah law provides for a discount on auto insurance for drivers over this age. To be eligible for this discount drivers must take a safe driving course at least every three years.
