Because this isnt always easy in our complex society, the Utah State Bar has established a Speakers Bureau to help educate people about our system of justice. Utah lawyers are available to speak on a wide variety of issues including: arbitration, child custody, consumer issues, criminal law, costs oflegal services, debtor-credit- or landlord-tenan- t, Southern Utah Home Care forum to meet in Kanab v lit pating in the Speakers Bureau which has been initiated under the direction of James Davis, Utah Court of Appeals. Representative Killpack has agreed to study and receive input on rural home health care. I am not coming in an official capacity I want to learn more about rural home health care so that I may vote to community, civic and special interest organizations on a wide variety of topics and to help educate people on the benefits of the U.S. legal system, role of the judiciary, and principles followed by attorneys as officers of the court, Mr. Haslam said. Once you have your list: Talk to the contractors to decide compatibility. You are not going to marry them, but you do need to be able to work with them. Ask contractors for the names ofpast clients. Talk to these people and ask if they finished on time and at the agreed price. Would they hire the contractor again? Is he or she licensed? It is very important to find out if the contractor is licensed. This does not guarantee quality or reliability, but it may be an indicator of stability and experience. Is the contractor insured? This is important. Ask them if theyre insured against claims cover- pare them. After selecting the best contractor, dont forget the contract. The contract should be in writing. Haveyour lawyer look at it. You have three days to back out ofthe deal without a penalty. Other questions to ask: Who is to obtain and pay for the necessary permits? What is the start and completion date? What quality, brand and grades of materials will be used in the work? What damages will be paid to me if the work is not completed on time? Who will clean up and remove debris from the job site? What are the written provisions for protection of property near or in the work area, including landscaping, .driving over trees, or damaging the sidewalk. What is my right as the owner to make changes? An agreement that the work will conform to local and state codes. That the agreement frees you from all liens that may be placed against the job for failure of the contractor to pay for materials, labor, equipment, etc. The schedule ofwhen payments are to be made and to whom.
