Alzheimers Disease, is the fourth leading cause of death among adults, and affects more than four million Americans- 25,000 in Utah alone. Alzheimers is a progressive, degenerative disease of the brain. Its cause is unknown, and there is no cure. Because Medicare and private health insurance do not cover Alzheimers care, most of the costs and care are borne by families. In Utah, 70 percent of people with the disease are cared for in the home by family members.
