McAllister said that there has been increasing support to undertake the project, and the City Council wanted to get a better barometer of public sentiment. The drawback, McAllister says, is that installing city curb, gutter and sidewalks is going to be costly. Our streets are 66 foot wide, and this makes pavement extension expensive for the residents. Some people can easily afford something like that, but others living on fixed incomes, it might strap. Assessment on the paving project wouldnt have to be paid all at once. People who chose could opt to pay for the improvements over an 0 year period. 8-1- Fortunately, the project doesnt have to be an all or nothing proposition. If theres enough interest, we can do a minimum of ten blocks at a time, perhaps by section. Eventually we would get it all done, said McAllister. Come to the hearing and discuss this important subject. People really need to get involved and give the Council their input,!iaid McAllister. |
