Show Lakeside Review North, Wednesday, February 13, 1985 3B Rain or Shine: Washing Machine Knows When to Quit SHARON NAUTA STEELE Special to the Lakeside No sound is more likely to strike terror in the heart of a woman that the death rattle of her washing machine, A woman whose washer has just given up the ghost is hard put to say what she fears rnost-t- he rough red hands she'll get from handwashing and wringing out the family's underwear, the sagging shoulders shell get from lugging 20 loads of dirty clothes to the laundramal in a soiled sitvwshirt that lives up to its name, or the empty palm she'll j have when she's paid finally the washing machine repair bill. And if all that weren't bad enough, while she's waiting for the service man to come, the poor dear will lie awake nights trembling at the thought that any moment her whole house could be engulfed by an avalanche of unwashed clothes. Luckily there are a few warning signs by which an observant housewife can predict when her machine is on its last legs.
