Show Wednesday, December 23, 1981 Sun Advocate, Price, Utah 3A Christmas feast to feed 750 citizens 1 The third annual Community Christmas Dinner will be at p.m. Christmas Day in the Karl Peterson Senior Citizens Center. The meal and corresponding festivities are open to anyone who will not be with their family on the holiday, according to organizer Elaine Jensen. This means that the dinner will be served to many who have moved into our communities and not found employment as of yet, Mrs. Jensen said. Organizers say they have prepared for 150 people. In the past, the Christmas meal was a major part of the Cheering the sick got his biggest wish the next day he went home. year-ol- Photo y scon noyd Mayor H. Mark Hanson: Will Price City miss him? (Continued from Page 1A) With Hansons loss, some fear Price will lose its representation on these committees. Many say it is foolish to expect that Mayor-eleMartines will be appointed to fill Hansons slot in all of these committees. The groups will more likely choose experienced elected officials from other communities in ct the region. Planning and Zoning activities have been among Hansons highest priorities. He has served on both the county and city Planning and Zoning Commissions. He helped to develop master plans that will allow for organized growth. Since sitting in the mayors chair, Hanson has worked to streamline city administration and operations. He claims the city will realize a savings of more than $75,000 each year if the changes he introduced are maintained. Its no secret that Hanson has been a sore loser. In one conversation, hellsay , hes worried about the effects of his loss on the city. The next day, hell say hes anxious to leave office. Im looking forward to returning full time to my business, he says. Ive won my freedom. Now Ill be able to spend more time with my family. I think 12 years is enough for any one man. Many say Martines has some rough times , ahead. The council supported Hanson during the election. Council members Lamond Williams and Theressa Frandsen campaigned as a team with Hanson. They won, he lost. It will take Martines time to gain the confidence of the council. Until he does, it may be hard for him to get support for any changes he wants to make. After all, the council is the same. They havent changed their views. They and Hanson were on the same team. They shared the same hopes and goals he did. When Martines takes office Jan. 4, he must tread carefully. He wont accomplish much without the support of the council. Some say the council will become stronger than ever before. Since the new mayor will be weak and inexperienced, they will have to take a more active role statewide in lobbying for Price. But Martines isnt totally inexperienced. As president of the Carbon County School Board, he was active in budgetary and financial concerns. He comes to Price City with years of experience in community and civic organizations behind him. Soon Martines will have the chance to make good on all the promises he made during the campaign. It wont take long before voters will know whether they put the X beside the right name.
