Show 7B THE GREEN SHEET For Elk Hunters Thursday, October 8, 1987 - Proclamation Is Needed Reading A legal bull elk is one with antlers at least five inches in length. Successful hunters must properly tag the elk immediately after the kill and before moving it. It is only legal to hunt during the daylight hours, 30 minutes before official sunrise to 30 minutes after official sunset. Hunters must wear at least 400 square inches of fluorescent hunter orange material on head, chest and back. Pistols are not allowed to be in the hunter's possession, camp or car during the season. These and other regulations listed in the proclamation will be enforced by wildlife law enforcement personnel, said Stewart. Hunting proclamations are available through license agents and the D R offices. SALT LAKE. Before elk hunters head for the slopes of their favorite mountain, they should take time to 1987-8Utah Big Game proclamation. A little time spent reading the proclamation can help hunters prevent costly mistakes, as well as save both time and money, said Ron Stewart of the Division of Wildlife Resources. Some things hunters should be aware of before going afield are: The general elk season started Oct. 1 and ends Oct. 13. It is a bull only hunt. Hunters must have in their possession a current, valid big game combination license and a 1987 general season bull elk permit. Unfilled archery permits are not legal and can not be filled after archery season. read the 8 Waterfowl Season Is Split This Year located on 540 South and north of 3300 Soufh. Eventually enough wetland plant life will exist to attract a larger variety of animal and bird species. Wild ducks, small mammals and a large variety of song birds are just some wildlife visitors can plan to see, she said. 'There will be a community of wildlife at the lower level of the park, but the canopy (tall trees near the wetland) will provide another level of wildlife," Halpin said while looking over the three-acrpark. "This canopy will be important for the song birds - they really need some attention as far as habitat fine. Most ducks migrate through Utah during the month of September, just before the hunting season begins Opening the season as early as federal guidelines permit allows hunters to be out when the greatest numbers of birds are available This position carries weight since the majority of waterfowl hunters hunt only during the first few weeks of the season. However, interest has been growing steadily from those who want to hunt during the early winter and around Christmas and New Year. Federal guidelines permit a maximum season length, so the only way to accomplish both an early and late season hunt is to take time off at some point in the middle. SALT LAKE.
