Show 6 THE GREEN SHEET Thursday, March 19, 1987 Councils Don't Like A Lot Of Cars In Lot ty Councils during Thursday night. SALT LAKK A proposal to build a thousand car parking lot on a 10- acre parcel in Cottonwood Heights met with adamant disapproval from the United Association of Communi- - a meeting here The proposed park and ride parking lot would be built in a gravel pit at Knudsens Corner near 6200 South and 2800 East. The lot would be used by Utah Transit Authority (UTA) during the winter as a location to pick up skiers waiting to be taken to ski resorts in Big Cottonwood Canyon. Faron Heap (Millcreek) moved the association indicate its position against the parking lot and support the choice of another location for a smaller parking lot. A park and ride at Knudsens Corners would be bad because of the litter, pollution and runoff it would generate there, he added. He asked the councils executive committee to poll County Commission members to determine their intended use of the gravel pit property and advise them against turning it into a gigantic parking lot. The parcel is owned by Salt Lake County. James Light (Big Cottonwood) voted against Heap's motion, saying his community council supports a park and ride lot. However, he said, I think UTA ought to come out to our communities and pick up our young skiers instead of making GHS Students parents drop their kids off at the tom of the canyon.
