Show 3 Pirate Club Swimmers MAGNA. Two swimmers from the for the Utah Junior Olympic championships held over the weekend at the Murray pool. Teams from the entire state competed Friday and Saturday in the top meet of the short course season, with Traci Cameron and Tiffany Hayes qualifying with national A times to meet the strict standards set up for the swimmers up to 14 years of age. Both girls are in the 2 age category. In the 200 freestyle, Cameron finished fifth and Hayes came in sixth. Hayes swam to a second place finish in the 50 butterfly with a new national AA time for her. In Saturdays events Cameron placed sixth in the 100 freestyle. Tiffany gained two additional AA times in her events Saturday and placed 2nd in the 50 yard breaststroke, third in the individual medley, and fourth in the 50 yard freestyle. At a region C meet over the weekend at the Kearns pool, other Pirate C swimmers performed well. Craig Barnes received first places in the 50 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 200 individual medley and the 100 butterfly in the boys division. Nathan Kelson, placed first in the 100 backstroke, 200 individual medley and the 100 freestyle. Receiving first place ribbons in the 11-1- 13-1- 11-1- 2 Jay D. Draper placed second in 2 the 50 freestyle in the boys group. Placing in the 10 and under division were Todd Blanchard with a first in both the 50 breaststroke and second in the 50 backstroke. Patrick Kershaw placed sixth in the 50 freestyle. Receiving second in both the 50 backstroke and the 50 breaststroke was Conrad Kelson. In the girls division, Angela Clemens placed first in both the 100 individual medley and the 50 backstroke, while Holly Lang received a first in the 50 butterfly, and Jamie Draper finished first in the 50 freestyle. Some of the swimmers will be traveling next weekend to swim meets being held in Price and another one in Las Vegas according to Mark Grey, new coach for the Pirate age group team. The Pirate Swim Club has been part of the Magna area for more than two decades, and provides swimmers of all ages a chance for competition on their own age and ability levels. Interested youth of the area may contact Carolyn Kershaw, or inparent president, at quire at the Magna pool between 4 and 6 p.m. on weekdays. 11-1- Idaho meet this weekend and 36 brought back medals or ribbons for their efforts. A Girls Junior Volleyball Tournament is scheduled for Sat., March 21, at 9 a.m. also at the center. All girls 15 and under, and 17 and under are invited to participate. An entry fee of $35 will be charged. e Finally, a unique d volleyball league will initiate play the week of April 14. A and B divisions will be offered. The B league will play on Tuesdays, while the A league will volley on Wednesdays. Teams must register and pay the $40 entry fee by April 3.
