Show i Those Were The Daysr My Friend give a parade life and make it fun. Why do you suppose The Music Man ranks in many peoples list of Top 10 Musical Favorites? "Those were the days my friend, we thought theyd never end . . . hate to get into the rut of talking about the good old days. But in this case, the days in question really werent that long ago. Today when what I assume is still the nations third largest parade wends its way down the streets of Salt Lake there will be a whole lot of beautiful floats, dozens of dignitaries, some awfully pretty girls and a few marching bands. A few marching bands! Sad isnt it? But there will be a whole lot more bands than there were in the local parades that drew some pretty big crowds on the Fourth of July or on other summer days when Town Days celebrations were or are being I Bicentennial celebration, among others, Hals kids never missed the Kearns Hometown Days Parade. Hal left the school system to tend g to his music business. With him, perhaps he took the challenge others faced in trying to compete. Certainly at his school things were never the same again. Today, only Alta and West Jordan come close to that type of enthusiasm for the magic of the marching band. And the accompanying abiility. Not only was Hal demanding musically, he set a standard of behavior that he expected to be adhered to. More than once a student was shipped home at parental expense before a held. Unfortunately, many, make that most, of those communities cant even count on their own local high school band for their parades. One band, whose citys July 4th parade happens to be billed as the valleys largest, will no doubt be in action today. But for the past several years it hasnt been available on the 4th to lead the citys arade. Despite the fact that usinesses and residents of the community were asked recently to help fund new band uniforms. But they did get to see them on television in Salt Lake Citys big parade last year, a date they were able to make after snubbing the community event. That prompted more than a few people, some of them business owners, to comment that they dont plan to make any more donations -not only to the band, but to any school activities. Cant really say that I blame them. While the floats are pretty and nice to look at, it is the bands that i 4 4 Ever Wonder Why? 4 4 4 tour ended. you can hold a baby there. Marching bands are close to nonexistent, even during the football season when we expect to see them lend some pageantry to Homecoming celebrations. Come summer, they may be willing to go to Disneyland or the Calgary Stampede, but few of them show up anywhere else. Nearly WASHINGTON, everyone 40 years old and older exhibits at least a slight form of hearing loss. It is estimated the 80 percent of those with hearing loss could have their problem corrected with either medication, surgery or the use of hearing aids. The Better Business Bureau urges consumers to consult a physician before considering using a hearing VSNV aid. Even though these aids are available without prescriptions they do not always provide satisfactory results. Your doctor should consult with, or have you visit, a hearing specialist. If it is determined this problem cannot be resolved medically, you should see a dispensing audiologist - a hearing science specialist.
