Parker, outgoing general manager and artistic director of Promised Valley Playhouse, announced here Thursday the formation of the Salt Lake Repertory t, Theatre, a performing arts organization founded to cater to community tastes and feelings. The seven announced productions of the 1986-8- 7 season will be performed in Symphony Hall and the Capitol Theater, with the lead-of- f production to be Andrew Lloyd Webers CATS on Sept. 18 in a black-ti- e concert at Symphony Hall. This will be followed by Rhapsody in Blue, The Snow Queen, A Day in SALT r Mary Larry at will hold Its II will hold its KEARNS CLASS OF Oliver! and George M! This announcement follows in the wake of the change in direction of Promised Valley Playhouse, which will become a resource center for ward and stake productions of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Da- y Saints, the theaters owner. These changes are effective at the end of the Summer Theater Festival now in progress at PVP. Thomas and Joanne Parker will leave their PVP positions when the Summer Festival closes, but may be involved in future Festival productions, if there are any. The Salt Lake Repertory Theater hopes to attract the same core audience that supported PVP. Indeed, it was the advance season ticket sales for PVP next year that provided some impetus for this decision. Ticket prices will be the same as PVPs were, ranging from $24.50 to $84 for season passes, and $4.50 to $12 for individual performances. Emphasis will be placed on new marketing techniques and season ticket sales to get an audience to the shows and keep the theater viable. Initial funding has come from the Parkers own pockets, some corporate sponsorship and the Urry family, whose name will appear on 0 seat theater that will be the the permanent home for City Rep, as they hope the company will be affectionately called. Details of this new building were sketchy because no final contracts have been signed, but it will apparently be downtown. Both Parkers have high hopes and lofty aspirations for their new foundling. We plan to strive for excellence in all we produce. Our overall aim is to be.yhat, we feel the r old Salt Lake Theater would have been in our day if it had survived the Depression years. We believe in the magic of theater, the living art, and are totally dedicated to bringing each audience a rewarding theatrical experience. Placing the Urry name on the building is another reflection of those aspirations. Parker put it this way: Francis Urry had a quality and integrity to his work that young artists need to study and emulate. In placing his name on this facility, we recognize not only his talent and personality, but also set his professional standards upon the material and GRANGER CLASS OF '66 will hold its 20 year reunion Aug. 23 in Park City.
