We were full of mischief, but we all wanted to do our bit. So we formed a club, knitted countless scarves, helmets, socks and gloves for the war effort. We took our club seriously. Because of my love for writing, I was elected secretary. I also wrote our theme song which we sang at the start of each meeting and closed with God Save The King." We also put on backyard plays and concerts to raise money for cigarettes and tobacco for our boys overseas. Club dues were two cents a week. When we had enough money in the treasury, we treated ourselves to a six-cecoke at the soda fountain. To this day, I dont think Coke ever tasted as good. V.
