The flowers are a bright symbol of hope and the increasing progress in cancer control. Today the survival rate for this disease is 50 percent and over, a significant advance over even ten years ago. This special event emphasizes the coming of spring and the spirit of renewed life, and donations for daffodils will hasten the progress of learning to control cancer. Donations for these first flowers of spring will be used to expand the growing hope for a world free of cancer, by increasing funds for cancer research at Utah hospitals and universities, education at local schools and businesses, and for services and rehabilitation aids for Utah cancer patients and their families. Over 310,000 fresh flowers will be brought to Utah from Washington state growing fields.
